THREE THINGS TO KNOW . . . #1 - TxDOT sent word out Friday that a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Harbor Bridge will take place May 10th. It replaces the legendary bridge which has been a part of the Corpus Christi skyline since the 1950s. As far as the bridge opening to traffic, KIII 3 NEWS reports that additional details will be released on when that will take place. #2 - Great to get rain, but not great to get an increase in mosquitos. Vector Control will start spraying today in Calallen and Annaville, and will spray around the area in the coming days. At only 23 years old, she became the first female Tejano artist to win a Grammy. I remember driving back from Corpus Christi that day, picking up a paycheck from a radio station I was working for, and then heading back, being on Business 77 between Bishop and Kingsville, turning on to FM 1355 and crossing the rail road tracks and hearing the news reported here on K-99, and then flipped over to KSAB Tejano 99.9. Tragic day. Her music lives on. GOOD NEWS STORY . . . After her truck driver owner passed away, Honey, a 14-year-old yellow lab, was taken in by an Indianapolis nonprofit who are on a mission to give the best possible farewell. Over a hundred volunteers responded to a social media post and Honey was treated to several truck rides, honoring her late owner's memory. She also reunited with the owner's family for her final ride and enjoyed her favorite special treats, surrounded by love in her final days.

Big Frank had the chance to visit with the legendary outdoorsman, Jim Shockey. Jim calls himself to be an inveterate peregrinator who has traveled for 30 years by dogsled, boat, horse, mule, donkey, plane, ATV, ARGO and by foot around this world. He has climbed the Sierra Madres of Mexico, spiritually "smudged" with the Beaver Cree of Canada's north and traveled the water roads of the Northwest Territories searching for caribou with the Dene first nations people. Jim has learned his tracking skills from the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in Namibia, learned to live off the land from the Aboriginal People in the Australian Outback and has "faced his lion" with the proud Masai warriors in Tanzania. Jim has stood, feet on the ground, between the Sudanese Rebel Poachers and the last remaining herds of Central African elephants. He has travelled the Ancient Silk and Salt Roads through Iran, Pakistan, Nepal and China; walked the steppes of Russia, hunted the Gobi Desert and sipped fermented mare's milk with the Mongolian nomads; he has spent nights with our warriors in Afghanistan and shared tears in lament, with his Inuit friends, as they sing of a world rolling over, the old ways passing on, harpoons and seals, polar bears and igloos ... a way of life gone. Bill O'Reilly - Killing The Witches

10/30/2023
Big Frank visit with Bill O'Reilly about the new book, Killing The Witches. Killing the Witches revisits one of the most frightening and inexplicable episodes in American history: the events of 1692 and 1693 in Salem Village, Massachusetts. What began as a mysterious affliction of two young girls who suffered violent fits and exhibited strange behavior soon spread to other young women. Rumors of demonic possession and witchcraft consumed Salem. Soon three women were arrested under suspicion of being witches--but as the hysteria spread, more than 200 people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, twenty were executed, and others died in jail or their lives were ruined. Killing the Witches tells the dramatic history of how the Puritan tradition and the power of early American ministers shaped the origins of the United States, influencing the founding fathers, the American Revolution, and even the Constitutional Convention. The repercussions of Salem continue to the present day, notably in the real-life story behind The Exorcist and in contemporary "witch hunts" driven by social media. The result is a compulsively readable book about good, evil, community panic, and how fear can overwhelm fact and reason. BILL O'REILLY is a trailblazing TV journalist who has experienced unprecedented success on cable news and in writing eighteen national number-one bestselling nonfiction books. There are more than eighteen million books in the Killing series in print. He lives on Long Island.
