All-Star pitching controversy, MLB Draft reactions & weekend recap

7/14/2025
The All-Star festivities are already underway in Atlanta, and there has been no lack of drama leading up to Tuesday night's main event. With rosters in flux as players drop out of the game, the latest conversation is around who has been selected to be on the mound. The Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski was named to the NL All-Star team as an injury replacement. Misiorowski has only pitched 25.2 innings in the majors; the fewest innings a pitcher has ever pitched and been named to an All-Star team. That being said, having an ERA of 2.81 and allowing only 12 hits, 8 runs and striking out 33 in those 25.2 innings is pretty impressive. Is five starts enough to justify an All-Star appearance? MLB seems to think so, as they look for who will draw the most eyes Tuesday night, but the players seem to have taken exception to this selection. Jake and Jordan discuss everything surrounding the drama and give their takes. Some more news about who will be on the mound was announced over the weekend as we found out the All-Star pitching starters. Pittsburgh Pirate Paul Skenes and Detroit Tiger Tarik Skubal are set to face-off in Atlanta on Tuesday. This matchup has provided a lot less controversy and a lot more excitement than the Misiorowski drama. Jake and Jordan talk about what they expect to see from this matchup and how the selection process went down. We got to see MLB's future on and off of the field this weekend. Not only did the MLB Futures Game happen, which the guys chat about, but the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft took place on Sunday. The Washington Nationals selected Eli Willits, a 17-year-old shortstop, with the first overall pick. The drama did not stop there and our draft guru, Jordan, breaks down all the highlights and takeaways from the first day of the draft. Finally, non-All Star related MLB games were played this weekend. The Red Sox mopped the Rays, the Mariners swept the Tigers and the Brewers swept the Nationals. The guys fill you in on all the highlights from a packed weekend in baseball. Plus, Paul Konerko received a signed White Sox jersey from the Pope. Home Run Derby predictions & MLB Draft preview

7/11/2025
The 4th of July has passed, but there will be some fireworks in Atlanta in just a few days as one of the most electrifying events in baseball takes center stage. The Home Run Derby. A stacked field will arrive at Truist Park ready to put on a show. The eight contestants consist of Cal Raleigh, James Wood, Junior Caminero, Byron Buxton, Brent Rooker, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Oneil Cruz and Ronald Acuña Jr. Jake and Jordan have been bursting with excitement for this year's Derby, and now they break down the field and ultimately pick a winner. While those home run hitters are preparing to show off their power, the next great home run hitters might be waiting to hear their names called as the MLB Draft is just a couple of days away. The Washington Nationals have the number one pick. Coming off of a recent franchise overhaul, with the firing of their long-time GM and manager, they hope to take someone who will help carry them into the future. Jake and Jordan discuss this and chat about names to look out for in the 2025 MLB Draft. MLB has announced its top-20 highest selling jerseys, and to no one's surprise, Shohei Ohtani is at the top of that list. What is surprising is where some other players landed, including those who didn't make or fell off of the list. Last, but surely not least, everyone's favorite segment of the week is here. The Good, The Bad & The Uggla. Steve Cohen has taken to twitter again, Justin Verlander has a very unfortunate stat on the year and an epic playlist are some of the highlights from this week's segment. Dodgers & Blue Jays streaking in different ways, All-Star Week updates & Bryson Stott interview

7/9/2025
The Los Angeles Dodgers went into Tuesday night riding a four-game losing streak, hoping that Clayton Kershaw could get them back into the win column to calm fans’ nerves. However, it was the Milwaukee Brewers’ young buck Jacob Misiorowski who outdueled the future Hall of Famer, handed LA another loss and started to raise some concerns among the Dodger Blue faithful. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss why they’re not overly concerned about the Dodgers’ recent play and what big problem does worry them if it’s not fixed by the postseason. They then dive into the extremely impressive 10-game winning streak by the Toronto Blue Jays, leaving them one win shy of tying their franchise record that now sees them alone at the top of the AL East. Later in this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan are joined by Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott to talk about his time in Philly, taking pride in being a batter who sees a lot of pitches and why it might take a little while for Las Vegas to catch onto baseball. The guys then close the show by discussing the home run race between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh, before sharing some insights on the 2025 Futures Game and Home Run Derby. 7/7/2025
2019 doesn't seem like that long ago, but one pandemic and five World Series later the 2019 World Series champs, the Washington Nationals, are making a huge franchise shift. General manager Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez are out for the Nationals after they were swept by the Boston Red Sox this past weekend. Jake and Jordan look at the Nationals, who sit above only the 21-69 Colorado Rockies in the National League, and breakdown how exactly the franchise fell so far. They also discuss what the Nationals future looks like and where they may go from here. The All-Star rosters are set. The pitchers have been announced and a "Legend Pick" has even been named. Clayton Kershaw reaches 3000, All-Star Game starters reaction + AL East drama

7/3/2025
On Wednesday night, Clayton Kershaw made baseball history, becoming only the 20th pitcher in MLB history to reach the 3,000 career strikeout mark. The future Hall of Famer entered the night three strikeouts away from the milestone, and he reached the plateau in front of his family and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ faithful fans. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the historical significance of this achievement by Kershaw and why it always felt inevitable that he would reach the mark. They also debate whether Gerrit Cole, Chris Sale or any other active starter might ever reach 3,000 strikeouts or if this could be the last time we see it happen in the game. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan react to the starting lineups for the American and National League All-Star teams, discuss the New York Yankees’ continued struggles that now see them tied atop the AL East with the Toronto Blue Jays and answer some of your mailbag questions. Remembering Dave Parker, Mets get swept & a weekend recap

6/30/2025
33 years after his retirement, Dave 'The Cobra' Parker finally got the news that he would be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame. Saturday, less than a month away from being able to attend his Hall of Fame induction, baseball lost its giant. The six-foot five-inch slugger left an indelible mark on the game. Parker won an MVP, back-to-back hitting titles, three Gold Gloves and two World Series. The 7-time All-Star finished with 2,712 hits and a 40.1 career WAR. Jake and Jordan remember the legend. The Mets' struggles continue as they suffer their worst series loss in team history. Losing by a combined score of 30-4 over the three game series, the Mets get swept by the Pirates without Paul Skenes. New York remains only 1.5 games back in the NL East, but does a players only meeting and a consistent lack of offense spell trouble as they prepare to meet up with the Brewers this week? The guys dive into this matchup and look ahead for the Mets. However, this was not the only sweep of the weekend as Jake and Jordan discuss the other two sweeps as well. They break down the Cardinals' sweep of the Guardians and the Marlins' sweep of the Diamondbacks in the latest version of 'How Sweep It Is.' Plus, Ohtani dominates on the mound and at the plate, Tarik Skubal strikes out 13, the Orioles score 22 runs in a game and the Astros continue to have the best record in baseball since since May 6th. Dream Home Run Derby lineup + A’s Jacob Wilson interview

6/27/2025
With less than three weeks to go until the 2025 MLB All-Star Game festivities take place in Atlanta, it’s time to start thinking about who might try to steal the show during the Home Run Derby. With Ronald Acuña Jr. and now Cal Raleigh confirmed to take part in the long ball contest, that leaves six spots open—and we have some ideas. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss their dream lineups for the derby and which players could make for the most exciting matchups. While Acuña Jr. seems to be the sentimental favorite to win, the addition of Elly De La Cruz and Mike Trout could make things even more interesting. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan are joined by Athletics rookie sensation Jacob Wilson to talk about his excitement for the All-Star Game, adjusting to life in the majors and why he takes pride in striking out so rarely. Chase Burns' dazzling debut, A's break ground in Las Vegas & All-Star voting explained

6/25/2025
Imagine this. You get the call that you're headed up for your MLB debut. Even better, your first start is at home against the Yankees. You step onto the mound and strike out the first two batters. Aaron Judge steps to the plate, he goes down swinging. The next inning you repeat the same process, striking out three of the next four batters. Well, this was reality for the Reds' Chase Burns on Tuesday. The second overall pick in the 2024 draft is the only pitcher in the last 50 years to strike out the first five batters faced in an MLB debut. Jake and Jordan break down Burns' dazzling debut. The Atlanta Braves have taken the first two games in their series against the New York Mets this week. The guys discuss the Braves' recent success over the Mets and the momentum they have going right now. They also dive into the Mets' recent struggles. Losers of 10 of their last 11, the Mets still sit only 1.5 GB in the NL East. Is it time to panic yet at Citi Field? The former Oakland A's, who are currently in Sacramento, broke ground in Las Vegas yesterday. The drawn-out move to Las Vegas took a crucial step, on Tuesday, with the team announcing that the new stadium will be ready by Opening Day 2028. Team owner, John Fisher, and MLB Commissioner, Rob Manfred, spoke at the ceremony. Jake and Jordan discuss the continuance of the A's to Vegas saga as they dive into what was said and what this move to Vegas might mean for the A's and MLB. The All-Star Game is just around the corner, and the first voting period is almost complete. 6/23/2025
On Sunday, the LSU Tigers roared yet again en route to their second Men’s College World Series title in the past three years, defeating Coastal Carolina two games to none. Padres vs. Dodgers rivalry gets heated, Phillies sweep Mets, CWS update & more

6/20/2025
There was no lack of drama at Chavez Ravine this week as an already heated intradivision rivalry turned the heat up even more. Ejections, players being hit, benches clearing and a walk-off home run were all sprinkled throughout the Dodgers and Padres matchup that saw LA take three of the four games. Jake and Jordan get into all of the drama from the series as they discuss the ejections of both managers, Tatis' injury, the Dodgers starting to look dominant again and more. Plus, the Dodgers' owner now owns another storied LA franchise, and the guys give their thoughts on the impact this may have on the Lakers. Rafael Devers’ debut in San Francisco, why the Red Sox don’t retain superstars & Shohei Ohtani back on the bump

6/18/2025
The baseball world is still buzzing about the shocking trade that sent Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants only two seasons after the Boston Red Sox signed him to an 11-year contract extension. While Devers is already making a great first impression by the Bay, there are still questions about why Boston traded away yet another superstar from their roster. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about Devers’ debut with the Giants, including a star-studded press conference and already mashing in his first game, as well as whether he could play a position the Red Sox once hoped he'd fill when the team rolls into San Francisco this weekend. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan welcome journalist Joon Lee to try to make sense of the trade from the Red Sox’s side. After trading away Mookie Betts, Chris Sale, and Rafael Devers—along with not re-signing Xander Bogaerts—the guys wonder if the team is losing credibility with an already irritated fan base. Rafael Devers traded to San Francisco, Shohei Ohtani to pitch Monday & a weekend recap

6/16/2025
The final weekend of spring brought the summer heat with some wild activity around the MLB on Fathers' Day. The Boston Red Sox & Rafael Devers drama came to a conclusion Sunday as Boston shocked the baseball world and traded Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Receiving no big stars in return, might this just have been a salary dump to end the Devers/Red Sox drama? A stunned Jake and Jordan breakdown the trade and try to figure out what exactly Boston was thinking. Plus, they get into how it changes the Giants' roster and how the only team left in The Bay might plan to use their new star. Shohei Ohtani has been making plenty of pitching appearances, in practice, over the last few weeks while the rest of the baseball world anxiously anticipates his return to the mound. The Dodgers have been very non-committal as to when that return will be, but all of that changed Sunday night. The Dodgers announced Ohtani will make his pitching return Monday against the Padres. Jake and Jordan discuss why this move was made now, if it's the right one and what this means for the Dodgers going forward. There was a lot of action that happened over the weekend, including nine sweeps! The guys won't let you down as they go Turbo Mode to the max to cover every single series from the weekend. 6/13/2025
The Milwaukee Brewers may have found their next "guy." Jacob Misiorowski put the league on notice, Thursday night, in an electric debut for the Brewers, striking out five Cardinals and allowing no hits in 5 innings. A slim Chris Sale is how Jake described him. Yahoo Sports' MLB Insider, Russell Dorsey, guest hosts, pinch hitting for Jordan Shusterman today. He and Jake break down Misiorowski's debut and explain why this outing may be a sign of big things to come from the Brewers' newest pitcher. One pitcher in takes one pitcher out. Jake and Russell discuss Aaron Civale's trade demand following Misiorowski's arrival. Minutes later breaking news hits the pod as Civale is traded to the White Sox for Andrew Vaughn. The guys breakdown this trade and try to figure out how exactly Andrew Vaughn may fit in Milwaukee. It's been a rocky start to the season for some players and Russell is especially concerned about a few of them. He breaks down the five players he is most concerned about this season. Red Sox outslug Yankees, possible World Series preview & weekend recap

6/9/2025
This past weekend saw the latest chapter in the greatest rivalry in baseball as the Boston Red Sox took on the New York Yankees in the Bronx. While there never needs to be an extra level of competitiveness between the two clubs, Sunday’s starter for Boston gave the Bronx Bombers a little extra incentive to try to show him up. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about Hunter Dobbins’ absurd comment that made headlines about retiring before signing with the Yankees right before he went on to have a solid outing in the Red Sox’s series-clinching game. The guys then discuss why Boston’s performance this weekend was extremely frustrating to watch, even though they won two out of three in the Bronx. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan discuss whether we saw a World Series preview this past weekend when the Chicago Cubs took their series against the Detroit Tigers, why they’re really excited to see what Buster Posey does at the trade deadline after the San Francisco Giants made another statement sweep against the Atlanta Braves and whether Corbin Burnes getting Tommy John surgery might actually work out in the Arizona Diamondbacks' favor—for now. 6/6/2025
Get ready to start seeing a lot of ball players tapping their heads in the MLB in 2026. Why, might you ask? That is the signal to initiate a review with the impending automated ball-strike system. The 89-year-old Chicago owner announced that as soon as 2029 he has the option to hand the team over to Justin Ishbia. Ishbia, brother to Phoenix Suns owner Matt Ishbia, is already a minority owner with the team. It has been made clear no movement will be made by Reinsdorf until 2029. Early look at All-Star Game ballots, what’s up with the Braves & College World Series updates

6/4/2025
With the Midsummer Classic set to take place in Atlanta at Truist Park on July 15th, today is the day that All-Star Game ballots have dropped—and it’s up to the public to make their choices. While some players might be locks to start the game (looking at you, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani), there are a few sports that could see some interesting position battles. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman go down the ballots for the American and National League squads, making their picks for who they think should be voted in as starters. They wonder if Juan Soto can beat out an impressive trio of NL outfielders, why Dave Roberts could be selective with his Los Angeles Dodgers players and whether Rafael Devers even bothers to bring a glove with him to Atlanta. Later on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys examine the weird season that the Atlanta Braves are having—and why it’s oddly similar to the Boston Red Sox—before going around the league to discuss all the injury news surrounding the Houston Astros and New York Mets, among other teams. They close the show with the latest news surrounding the Men’s and Women’s College World Series. Jac Caglianone gets called up, Shohei Ohtani falls asleep mid-World Series rematch & Phillies get swept

6/2/2025
Could the best hitter on the Kansas City Royals have been sitting in the minor leagues this season? Everyone is about to find out as one of the top prospects in baseball, Jac Caglianone, gets the call. Jake and Jordan reflect on his impressive collegiate career and discuss how it may translate in the majors. Even some of the best athletes in the world get sleepy at work. Shohei Ohtani was caught falling asleep in the dugout during a World Series rematch vs. the New York Yankees this weekend. Jake, who may or may not have slept through his alarm before recording this episode, has some (hypocritical?) thoughts on what happened in LA. A full weekend of baseball with sweeps, mops and even some college drama occurred. The guys give a full recap on all that happened in the world of baseball. Is the Red Sox season already over? Plus, Dodgers make a trade & the Good, the Bad, the Uggla

5/29/2025
The Boston Red Sox are 27-31 with May coming to a close and what was a season that started with optimism is beginning to sink into a sour reality as the season pushes past its one-third mark. Jake Mintz & Jordan Shusterman talk about Boston's floundering 2025 campaign, the issues with roster construction and how manager Alex Cora isn't entirely to blame. Can the Red Sox pull out of their early-season hole? Will fortunes change after their first series against the New York Yankees next week? Only time will tell, but it's hard to be optimistic about their chances this season sitting at 4th in the AL East. Meanwhile out west, the Los Angeles Dodgers have made a trade! The guys explain the reasoning behind acquiring Cincinnati Reds reliever Alexis Diaz for prospect Mike Villani. Diaz, who was an All-Star just two seasons ago has regressed significantly, but with the injuries throughout LA's pitching staff, the move made sense for both sides. Closing out the episode, Jake and Jordan dive further into the mechanics of the bullpen phone before closing out the week with a new edition of The Good, The Bad & The Uggla where pitching injuries reign supreme, the MLB partners with the AUSL & the Miami Marlins have a new baserunning tactic in the minor leagues. (2:25) - Are the Boston Red Sox cooked?
