Introduction to The Practical Applications of Taoism
SULI Daniel Johnson
This is an introduction to The Practical Application of Taoism and the seven-step system to get there.
This book explains what is behind Taoism or reality at a fundamental level. I began studying at a temple as a means to overcome dyslexia. Throughout the process, I overcame dyslexia. I did not just learn skills to cope with it but overcame it. Before that time, I had learned many conventional skills in high school and college. I reached a point where I comfortably knew more than most experts. Some of these techniques helped to some degree, but I never really began to understand and overcome dyslexia until I finally spent time in the temple. Overcoming dyslexia was the triumph of my life. As wonderful as this was, this was really only one of the unexpected side benefits of the process that I went through.
Taoism, like Zen meditation and many other programs, is only a method of experiencing what is behind the reality that most of us believe we understand and know very well. This reality can be defined as what is underneath the ideas and symbols on a timeline. It is what makes up most of our conscious thinking. This is not reality but rather an interpretation of reality. Taoism and Zen attempt to relate to the reality that exists underneath all things. For many people, this pursuit may seem too esoteric. Indeed, in all of my Taoist readings and in researching this book, I discovered that the public definition of Taoism is varied, confusing, and, in some cases, misleading. These are unique and pragmatic perspectives. Science and logic deal with interpreting reality through a specific lens of thoughts and ideas developed from our sensory experiences. It mostly relates to our primary visual senses. There is much more to reality than this. In order to experience Reality at a fundamental level or to understand the Tao, you need to live the Tao. The Tao is the way to experience and live reality at a fundamental level.
