In its place came a voice unlike any Mike had heard before—hollow and distant, as if transmitted through water from somewhere impossibly far away. "Wildfire... Mountain road... Three days." Mike shook his head and continued his show, but the strange message lingered in his thoughts long after he signed off at dawn. He chalked it up to equipment malfunction—until exactly three days later, when a devastating wildfire cut off the mountain road leading into Echo Valley, trapping dozens of hikers who would have perished if not for the emergency evacuation order issued just hours before. An order issued because Mike had mentioned the strange warning on his show. The coincidence might have been dismissed, except that it happened again two weeks later.
