However, far from everyone complies because we just don’t understand how our small smartphones can interfere with the operation of a high-tech aircraft. This seemingly simple command leaves us with the questions “Why?” and “What will happen if I don’t?” And some of us, particularly the brave and rebellious types, choose to leave our gadgets. In flight mode, your gadget disables all data services (Wi-Fi, GSM, Bluetooth, etc.). Simply put, your phone or tablet stops functioning as a radio receiver. When a smartphone is just locked and you’re not using it, it is still searching for a network, and its frequency may overlap with the frequency of the aircraft’s systems. If your cell phone signal is strong enough to travel long distances, then it can definitely cause interference with an airplane’s radio communications, and the pilot will not hear information transmitted by the air traffic controller. It can also meddle with the navigation and flight-control equipment. All this might lead to an emergency situation, and we don’t want that, right? If there’s more than one disobedient passenger on board, the signals from their gadgets combine and obviously get even more intense. Public Radio International asked people to confess their travel secrets, and it turns out that 4 out of 10 passengers in the US ignore the warnings and leave their gadgets on while soaring through the clouds. Throughout the flight, you can use any devices that don’t exchange data through GSM, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. If you can’t live without the Internet (or at least you think can’t), there’s a solution for you kindly provided by many airlines today. In-flight Wi-Fi doesn’t use cell towers to bring the world to you. One thing you should remember, though, is that it’s not free. Prices vary depending on the airline and the device, but $10 is normally enough to keep yourself on the grid during a flight if you prefer to pay for just one trip. To sum it all up: while a couple of working phones won’t crash a plane, a cabin full of passengers actively using their gadgets will interfere with the safety of the flight. No one in the world is 100% safe from natural disasters, and you should know exactly how to save your own life and help others in case you find yourself in a critical situation. Pay attention to the right course of action that will help you to survive and assist those around you. Here are some recommendations about what to do and what not to do in critical situations. How to survive an earthquake 2:11 If an earthquake finds you inside, fall to the floor and use anything nearby that is sturdy and strong: a desk, a bed, or a table as a cover. If there's nothing nearby, crouch in an inside corner of the building. Protect your head with your arms. DO NOT go outside. You’re safer inside the building. DO NOT hide under doorways. It’s not safe. Stay inside until you feel the shaking stop. If you are outdoors, stay clear of buildings, utility wires, streetlights, and other objects that may fall. If you're driving, stop the car immediately, but don't leave it. If you are trapped under debris, don't panic, and don't try to get out on your own. Wait for help. How to survive a tornado 5:28 If you're inside when tornado hits, immediately stop whatever you are doing. Find a shelter. If you can't reach an underground shelter, go down to the basement. If you can't get underground, find a room without windows. It should be the closest to the center of the house and on the lowest floor available. Wherever you are, lie down or crouch on the ground with your face turned down. Cover your head with your arms. How to survive a tsunami 7:34 The first thing you need to do in case of tsunami is move as far away from the shore as possible. Find higher ground. It's best if you can get as high up as 100 ft above sea level. If you live in an area that can be affected by a tsunami, plan an evacuation route. This will help you in a critical situation. How to survive a hurricane 8:20 When you hear an announcement about an approaching hurricane, follow the instructions from the authorities. When the hurricane approaches, stay clear of glass doors and windows. Whatever the reason, DO NOT go outside. Finding the Titanic was like searching for a needle in a haystack—at the bottom of the ocean! 🌊 For decades, people knew it sank in the North Atlantic, but the exact spot was a mystery. The problem? The ship broke into pieces as it sank, scattering debris across a massive area. Plus, the wreck was sitting over 12,000 feet deep in the dark, freezing ocean, making it nearly impossible to spot with old technology. Here’s something wild: a chunk of the Moon might’ve broken off, and it’s hanging out closer to Earth than you’d think! 🌙 Scientists believe this mysterious space rock, called Kamo’oalewa, could be a piece of our Moon that got knocked loose ages ago, maybe from an asteroid impact. Right now, it’s orbiting the Sun in a pattern that keeps it pretty close to Earth—kind of like a cosmic dance partner! 💫 It’s so small, though, that spotting it is super tricky. Some researchers believe that ships and planes crash and disappear in the area due to methane gas. And it has indeed been proved that there are massive stores of this gas in some areas of the ocean floor. Therefore, when gas is released into the water, the process can sink ships and make planes crash. The wormholes theory is preferred by those who love sci-fi. In short, a wormhole is a space-time shortcut. While the existence of wormholes hasn't been proven yet, this doesn't stop some people from believing that this phenomenon is what causes vanishings in the Bermuda Triangle. Waterspouts (more simply, tornados at sea) are said to have been spotted in the Bermuda Triangle. This weather phenomenon sucks water many feet up into the air. Potentially, this can make a ship disappear with eerie ease. Compasses are reported to malfunction in the Bermuda Triangle. This place is one of the few on Earth where compasses have problems pointing north. This can lead to sailors and pilots going off their course. The human error theory sounds rather disappointing for those who love mysteries! However, some people are sure that all the crashes and disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle happen due to people's mistakes. There are too many confusing islands that are hard to distinguish from one another as well as the difficult weather condition. No mystery can exist without an explanation of alien interference. It's just too convenient to blame disappearances on extraterrestrial forces. Though why aliens would choose exactly this area for their abductions remains unknown. The most recent findings of scientists allow them to claim that the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle has finally been solved. The culprits are huge sea monsters! But when we say “monsters,” we do not mean living creatures. They are enormous rogue waves that were believed to be a myth. Rogue waves are terrifying and anomalous.
