The term is most commonly used in regard to music performers with only one hit single that overshadows their other work. Some artists dubbed "one-hit wonders" in a particular country had achieved success in other countries. Music artists with subsequent popular albums and hit listings are not properly considered a one-hit wonder, although artists with multiple hits have sometimes been erroneously labelled as "one-hit wonders" if one particular hit has become much more well-remembered years or decades later than their other hits. One-hit wonders usually see their popularity decreasing after their hit listing, and most often never return to hit listings with other songs or albums. "

He fronted numerous bands throughout his career, including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell. Dio's music career began in 1957 as part of the Vegas Kings (later Ronnie and the Rumblers). In 1967, he formed the rock band Elf. In 1975, Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore founded the band Rainbow and hired Dio to be the lead singer; during his tenure, the band released three studio albums. Dio quickly emerged as one of heavy rock's pre-eminent vocalists. In 1979, Dio replaced Ozzy Osbourne as Black Sabbath's lead singer and appeared on three studio albums with the band, all three of which met with success: Heaven & Hell (1980), Mob Rules (1981) and Dehumanizer (1992). In 1982, he left to form the band Dio, which itself had two albums certified platinum by the RIAA. In 2006, he founded the band Heaven & Hell with ex-bandmate Tony Iommi. In November 2009, Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer and died of the disease six months later on May 16, 2010. Dio is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal vocalists of all time. He is known for popularizing the "devil horns" hand gesture in metal culture and his medieval-themed song lyrics. According to a version provided by the singer himself, the act derives directly from the classic Italian apotropaic gesture, which his grandmother often displayed. Dio had a powerful, versatile vocal range and was capable of singing both hard rock and lighter ballads. He was awarded the "Metal Guru Award" by Classic Rock Magazine in 2006. He was also named the "Best Metal Singer" at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in 2010 and ranked as the genre's best vocalist in 2013 by music journalist Sacha Jenkins. "

Blutengel is an electronica pop group with goth overtones, and has gone through a few member changes while sticking to a configuration of one male and two female singers. They sing in German and in English and the songs usually centre around themes common in Gothic fiction such as love, vampirism, sexual fetishism, death and immortality. The original two female singers were photographer and singer Nina Bendigkeit and Katie Roloff. Bendigkeit left after the debut album, Child of Glass, which was released to modest club success in 1999. It was an amicable parting, as Bendigkeit would later work on the band's publicity materials; she was replaced as a vocalist by Gini Martin. The next album, Seelenschmerz, continued to develop the band's fan base in Germany, with several singles garnering airplay; it was enough for Pohl and the group to finally perform live, and their debut performance was for 10,000 fans at a festival in Leipzig. The success strained relationships in the band, and in 2001 both Roloff and Martin left Blutengel to found the group Tristesse de la Lune, stating that Pohl's leadership had become overbearing. They were replaced by Eva Pölzing and session singer Constance Rudert. The next album proved to be the band's breakthrough in Germany -- Angel Dust placed 58th in the Top 100 albums of the year, and the singles "Angel of the Night" and "Vampire Romance" were national hits. Pohl retooled their live show, turning it into a theatrical spectacle, featuring dancers, pyrotechnics, and melodramatic gothic sets and costumes. Only the three singers and dancers were visible to the audience, as the musicians were either hidden or taped. They became darlings of the European electronic festival circuit, and steadily built an ever larger fan base. Another album and the band finally toured overseas, visiting the U.S.A., Mexico, and England in 2005, and gaining a U.S. release for the CD Demon Kiss. In 2005 Eva Pölzing left the group for personal reasons, and was replaced by Ulrike Goldmann. The constant lineup changes did not bother the group's fan base and sales from their albums continued to grow with each new release. Beginning with 2007's Labyrinth, Blutengel began a slow rise to the top of the charts, culminating with 2013's Monument, which reached number four on the German charts. Over the following years another 5 albums saw the light which included Omen/Save Us 2015, Leitbild "Model"2017, Un:Gött "Ungodly" 2019, Erlösung "Salvation or Redemption" – The Victory of Light 2021 and in 2023: Un:Sterblich "Immortal"– Our Souls Will Never Die. 2025 saw the release of their latest work Damonen Sturm "Demons: Storm" "

After leaving the band in 1997, he formed the band U.D.O., in which he has also enjoyed commercial success. Dirkschneider has a long career spanning almost five decades that helped to shape German heavy metal. His unique and raspy voice approach and his taste for huge choruses is a big part of Accept's appeal and made him one of the most recognizable characters in heavy metal history. In his long career, Dirkschneider shared his vocals with a few artists, as in the cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" released in 1983 as B-side of "Break the Chain" single on Raven's All for One album. Dirkschneider is also famous for his duet with his longtime friend Doro Pesch on the song "Dancing with an Angel". In 1999, Dirkschneider recorded the Helloween song "I Want Out" and a new version of Accept's "Head Over Heels" with HammerFall. And as guest on the song music "Shtil" by the Russian heavy metal band Aria on their 2001's album Chimera. In 2006, Dirkschneider sang the song "They Only Come Out at Night" with Mr. Lordi on Lordi album The Arockalypse, as well as performing it live on stage the same year Wacken Open Air. In 2013, Dirkschneider performed a duet with Marko Hietala on Finnish band Lazy Bonez's debut album Vol.1. They sang a song called "First to Go – Last to Know". Marking the 40th anniversary of the legendary ACCEPT album ‘Balls To The Wall’, former frontman and founder Udo has reimagined this iconic record in a powerful new version, featuring an array of renowned guest artists from the global rock and metal scene. This project was inspired by countless conversations with fans and musicians, all urging Udo to celebrate the album’s milestone. Among the renowned musicians involved we find Biff Byford of SAXON, Nils Molin of DYNAZTY, Michael Kiske of HELLOWEEN, Dee Snider of TWISTED SISTER, and more. "

They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical style has varied throughout their career. Originally formed as a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band, they shifted to a heavier sound with their 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". Listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, they have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Deep Purple have had several line-up changes and disbanded for eight years from 1976 to 1984, with drummer Ian Paice being the band's only constant member. The first four line-ups, which constituted the band's original 1968–1976 run, are officially indicated as Mark I (1968–1969), Mark II (1969–1973), Mark III (1973–1975) and Mark IV (1975–1976). Mark I comprised the founding members of Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Rod Evans (vocals), Jon Lord (keyboards), Paice (drums) and Nick Simper (bass), while Mark II was the most influential and commercially successful line-up, with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover replacing Evans and Simper respectively. Mark III saw David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes replace Gillan and Glover respectively, while Mark IV featured Tommy Bolin replacing Blackmore. The band split in July 1976, and Bolin died from a drug overdose five months later. Deep Purple reformed in 1984 with the Mark II line-up, which remained in place until Joe Lynn Turner replaced Gillan in 1989. Gillan rejoined in 1992, and Blackmore left for the second and final time the following year. He was replaced temporarily by Joe Satriani and then permanently by Steve Morse. In 2002, Lord retired and was replaced by Don Airey, which saw Deep Purple settle into its longest running line-up, unchanged for the next twenty years, until Morse announced his departure from the band in 2022. His place was taken by Simon McBride. Paice, Glover, Gillan, Airey and McBride comprise the current line-up of Deep Purple. Deep Purple were ranked number 22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programme, and a poll on radio station Planet Rock ranked them 5th among the "most influential bands ever". The band received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards. Deep Purple (specifically Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Gillan, Glover, Coverdale, Evans, and Hughes) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. "

It developed in the Southern United States from rock and roll, country music, and blues and is focused generally on electric guitars and vocals. Rock music's origins lie mostly in the music of the American South, and many stars from the first wave of 1950s rock and roll such as Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, and Jerry Lee Lewis hailed from the Deep South. However, the British Invasion and the rise of folk rock and psychedelic rock in the middle 1960s shifted the focus of new rock music away from the rural south and to large cities like Liverpool, London, Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco. Southern rock includes subgenres like blues rock, Southern metal, and country rock. "

Their music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal, although the band calls it simply "rock and roll". They underwent several line-up changes before releasing their debut Australasian-only album, High Voltage (1975). Membership stabilised after the release of Let There Be Rock (1977), with the Young brothers, Phil Rudd on drums, Cliff Williams on bass guitar and Bon Scott on lead vocals. Seven months after the release of Highway to Hell (1979), Scott died of alcohol poisoning and English singer Brian Johnson was then recruited as their new frontman. Their first album with Johnson, Back in Black (1980), dedicated to Scott's memory, became the second best-selling album of all time. The eighth studio album, For Those About to Rock (1981), was their first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200. Rudd was fired partway through the Flick of the Switch sessions in 1983 and was replaced by Simon Wright, who was replaced by Chris Slade six years later. AC/DC experienced a commercial resurgence in the early 1990s with the release of album The Razors Edge (1990); it was their only record to feature Slade, as Rudd returned in 1994. Rudd has since recorded five more albums with the band, starting with Ballbreaker (1995). Their fifteenth studio album, Black Ice, was the second highest-selling record of 2008 and their highest chart peak since For Those About to Rock, eventually reaching number one worldwide. The band's line-up remained the same for 20 years until 2014 when Malcolm retired due to early-onset dementia, from which he died three years later; additionally, Rudd was charged with threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. Angus and Malcolm's nephew, Stevie Young, replaced Malcolm and debuted on the album Rock or Bust (2014). On the accompanying tour, Slade filled in for Rudd. In 2016, Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose replaced Johnson for the rest of the tour dates due to a risk of hearing loss, Williams retired at the end of the tour and the band entered a two-year hiatus. A reunion of the Rock or Bust line-up was announced in September 2020; the band's seventeenth studio album, Power Up, was released two months later. Their supporting tour was announced in February 2024, with drummer Matt Laug replacing Rudd, and bass guitarist Chris Chaney replacing Williams. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. "

It may also have been derived from a British usage of the 1600s referring to the "intense visual hallucinations that can accompany severe alcohol withdrawal" As time went on, the phrase lost the reference to devils and came to mean a state of agitation or depression. By the 1800s in the United States, the term "blues" was associated with drinking alcohol, a meaning which survives in the phrase 'blue law', which prohibits the sale of alcohol on Sunday Blues is a music genre and musical form that originated amongst African-Americans in the Deep South of the United States around the 1860s. Blues has incorporated spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads from the African-American culture. The blues form is ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, and is characterized by the call-and-response pattern, the blues scale, and specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues is the most common. The group's original style was similar to that of AC/DC but in later years went in a more commercial heavy metal direction along the lines of Judas Priest. The band was originally formed in Adelaide under the name Fat Lip, which featured Scottish-born Allan Fryer, bassist Laurie Marlow, and drummer Joe Turtur. Fat Lip came to the attention of a Sydney music industry figure who had managed AC/DC in the 1970s and had just started a new record label called DeLuxe, to which he had signed INXS. Fat Lip began recording an album for DeLuxe, but changed its name to Heaven during the sessions. The album, Twilight of Mischief, was preceded in late 1981 by a single, "Fantasy". A second single, "In the Beginning" became the album's title track . John Haese left Heaven after the album was released and was replaced by Mick Cocks, formerly of Rose Tattoo. After a successful Australian tour supporting Iron Maiden, the band then went to the United States and also found some success there, particularly on the West Coast and toured with Judas Priest, Mötley Crüe, Black Sabbath and Kiss. They recorded a second album during 1983 called Where Angels Fear to Tread. The album was supported by a single, "Rock School" that received heavy airplay on MTV and featured guest contributions from Ronnie James Dio, Lita Ford and Glenn Hughes. After this, Cocks and Turtur left Heaven. Former AC/DC bass player Mark Evans and John Lalor were brought in as replacements but Unfortunatly the relationship ended directly after a successful headlining tour of Australia. Heaven disbanded due to conflicts with Fryer. In 1984, Fryer recruited drummer Tommy Dimitroff and returned to America to reform Heaven, this time with ex-Talas guitarist Mitch Perry and Mark Cunningham, who had most recently been in a band called Cathedral. Dennis Feldman, formerly of Ram-Jam and The Michael Schenker group also joined the new Heaven line-up on bass and the group recorded the album. Columbia A&R man, Mason Munoz, signed the band to release the album Knocking on Heaven's Door. The album's title track was a heavy metal cover of the Bob Dylan song. After this, Fryer moved to Texas and forged ahead keeping the Heaven name alive with local talent. In 1985, Heaven opened for Christian metal band Stryper in Corpus Christi, Texas. Kelly, Marlow, Fryer and Haese reformed Heaven in Sydney in 1998 to play two shows. After this, Kats and Marlow started working on new material with guitarist Kevin Pratt. The collaboration was designed as a new Heaven album but the project ran out of money. Yet another reformation happened in 2001 however, when Fryer, Marlow, Kats and Pratt recruited guitarist Ross Flynn and toured as Heaven in support of Judas Priest's Australian tour. Immediately after these shows, Fryer again returned to America. On 4 June 2015 it was announced that Heaven's vocalist, Allan Fryer, had died after a long battle with cancer. Heaven have recently reformed with original members Laurie Marlow and John Haese, performing in Sydney in November 2022. "

Singer/songwriter Cody Parks always knew his vision could become a reality with the right players who shared his passion. In 2019, Cody Parks and The Dirty South came together to blend the heart and soul of country music with the gritty, rebellious spirit of ’80s and ’90s metal. Their fusion of country roots with influences like Mötley Crüe, Ratt, and Pantera gives birth to a sound that’s as wild as a rodeo, as relentless as a freight train, and as unforgettable as a southern summer. There first singles released in 2019 continuing through to the release of the EP Smothered and Covered in 2023, Cody Parks and The Dirty South unleashed a storm that’s destined to leave a trail of awe in its wake. This EP is a testament to their audacious approach to music – a collection of tracks that seamlessly melds the heart-wrenching narratives of country with the thunderous riffs and bone-rattling breakdowns of metal. Tracks like “Thundercash 69” and “Grundy County Cowboys” capture the essence of this musical alchemy. As we look ahead to 2025, Cody Parks and The Dirty South are on a mission. They’re plowing through cities, tearing down the walls of genre conformity, and challenging the status quo of modern country music. With Smothered and Covered as their battle cry, they’re leading the charge in redefining what country music can be. Their latest EP, “Country Metal, Vol. 1”, was set for release on November 1st 2024 "

The band, with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, was very impressed by his performance, however the glitzier Ace Frehley (who auditioned immediately after him) was chosen to fill the spot. Kulick later played (uncredited) on three Kiss albums: Alive II (three of the five studio tracks), Killers (all four new studio tracks), and some minimal work on Creatures of the Night. He also played on Paul Stanley's 1978 solo album and on his 1989 solo tour. So although never officially being a member of the band he is regarded as the secret guitarist of Kiss and likened to THE REAPER persona. Early in his session career, Bob Kulick played lead guitar for Lou Reed on his Coney Island Baby record. Kulick and brother Bruce both played in singer Michael Bolton's band at this time. Kulick then began a long-running stint in the Neverland Express, Meat Loaf's touring band, on and off for years, which led to appearances on several Meat Loaf albums, most notably on 1984's Bad Attitude. He also formed a band called Balance, which had modest chart success in the early 1980s, followed up by playing rhythm and lead guitar on Michael Bolton's 1983 self-titled album. Bob Kulick was involved with a project called Skull, releasing one album, No Bones About It, in 1991. . In addition, Kulick played on the W.A.S.P. albums The Crimson Idol and Still Not Black Enough. He was only involved with the studio work and never toured with W.A.S.P. or became a member of the band. In 1996 he released Murderer's Row with his band of the same name. This group included David Glen Eisley on vocals. Thereafter, Kulick served in various side projects such as Blackthorne and Observation Balloon. He also produced Motörhead's "Whiplash", produced and played guitar on the theme for WWE wrestler Triple H, and earned 11 platinum or gold records working with Kiss and Diana Ross. Kulick also composed, produced, and performed "Sweet Victory" with Eisley in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Band Geeks" on Nickelodeon. The song further appears on SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Album. In 1983, Kulick began a long-term relationship with actress Stella Stevens. Skeletons in the Closet was Bobs first and only solo album released in 2017. He also played Guitar on Doro Pesch album Calling the Wild in late 2000. Kulick's death on May 28, 2020, was confirmed by his brother Bruce. On October 2, 2020, Bruce stated that his brother had died of heart disease, with the pandemic possibly having delayed treatment.
