If we were to create an ideal ‘wish list’ for Vladimir Putin – what would he want to achieve most from his substantial investments in assets, agents and useful idiots, as well as through reflexive control. Edition No119 | 29-03-2025 - A limo from 'Putin’s car fleet' has blown up in a huge blast in central Moscow – which will undoubtedly fuel the already intense paranoia of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This comes just a day after pictures emerged of his honour guard being searched for bombs.Signs are intensifying of Putin’s paranoia about losing his life to assassination, as sewers in Moscow are set to be routinely searched and his own guards are patted down. One story doing the rounds apparently from an ex-bodyguard suggest the despot uses his personal protection to operate his washing machine due to assassination fears.The Aurus limousine from Putin's "official car fleet" was destroyed in a huge blast on a street just north of Moscow's FSB secret service headquarters in Lubyanka. Footage showed the fire started in the engine of the £275,000 Aurus Senat subsequently spread to the interior of the vehicle. Workers from nearby restaurants and bars poured onto Sretenka Street before fire services arrived. In photos black smoke can be seen billowing out of the destroyed vehicle as the fire rages. Footage taken from another angle suggested the car’s rear was also damaged.It’s not known who was using the car at the time, or even if there was anyone inside. The vehicle is believed to be owned by Putin’s Presidential Property Management Department. This is not a question of bad information, leading to poor strategy, and if only good information were injected into the political environment suddenly all would be well, and a sensible strategy would emerge. No this is a question of bad intent. Yes, Trump is likely sincere where he wants to end the war – because without its end, it’s far harder for him to make money from it. It’s far harder to stabilise the global economy and achieve declines in oil and gas prices to fire up industrial growth and lower consumer prices. It’s not out of love for humanity, or a fervent desire for peace. It’s about the mid-term elections and delivering tangible dividends for his base. What the Witkoff conversation lays bare, but which few seem to want to acknowledge, the bad information and repetition of Kremlin narratives is beneficial to the strategy to stop the war at any cost. And Trump, who is Witkoff’s boss, not the US, its foreign policy, its citizens or legislature, no Trump is personally and literally the only commander he cares about. The lies are useful, because they have almost certainly decided that the capitulation and dismemberment of Ukraine is the easiest and fastest way to achieve peace. In their minds peace has a downside and an upside price. And they expect Ukraine to pay the downside costs, while Trump and his acolytes can achieve the upside profits. Edition No115 | 21-03-2025 - Russian drones have hit civilian targets in Ukraine's Odesa. the port city is ‘on fire’ after a ‘massive’ Russian attack against civilian targets and civilian infrastructure. Three people were injured, and a high-rise apartment building and a shopping centre destroyed. This is the essence of the Russian World – violence, mayhem and a desire to spread fear. This is Russia’s response to Trump’s so-called peace deal; this is what American weakness and naivety leads to. Rather than dampening down Russia’s violence, it provokes into yet more intense fury. Russian forces launched a mass drone attack on Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa late on Thursday, striking three locations that triggered fires, while three districts of the city suffered from power cuts. Odesa has been a frequent target of Russian attacks in the three-year war, particularly the city's port facilities, which handle vital grain exports and provide essential income to support the Ukrainian economy.Odesa was engulfed in flames just, hours after US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about ending the war and as peace talks are set to resume on Monday. Although they are more and more coming to resemble capitulation and betrayal talks, which pointedly are taking place between the US and Russia, but with little to no influence in the process from Ukraine or Europe. Edition No114 | 20-03-2025 - There is of course a desire in Ukraine for a time when elections can be held in a safe and inclusive fashion. There is massive support for a reassertion of democratic process, because Ukraine has a vibrant and combative democratic culture and penchant for boisterous dialogue. But most people believe now is not the time to unleash these pent-up political forces. The risk of division is something that Putin could ruthlessly exploit to gain advantage. But as the so-called peace talks gain momentum, the debate over Ukraine’s elections and future leadership intensifies. But this pressure is a matter for Ukrainians, and their democratic agency and expression is theirs, and theirs alone. The trouble is that much of the pressure to speed up the process is coming from the Russian and American sides, and those questioning the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are largely external to the country. People who have no vote in the process, no skin in the game, and are not citizens. But this coercive pressure is having the opposite effect – that is solidifying his position. Zelensky’s approval ratings had been under pressure due to military setbacks, internal disputes, and questions over governance, but bounced back following the debacle in the oval office.
