Asatru For Beginners
Amanda Xavier
Imagine a world where everybody followed a set of morals and virtues that made us all better, where we worked as kindred to solve goals and create a successful society for everyone to live in peace. Asatru is the religion of such people. It doesn't dictate or punish its followers but encourages us to be the best we can be. So, I hear you ask, how does that relate to Norsemen and their Viking counterparts? It may surprise you that even these most violent warriors and marauders had a moral code that meant they respected the oaths they took and were at heart family men and successful farmers. Times were different then, and the Norse people were pressured to leave their old ways behind and become Christians. They fought back, refused to comply, and saw the newly formed Christian churches as a fair game. Modern pagans understand that the old ways worked for them, but the morals behind their actions are as important and true today as they were then. So, forget what you know about the Norse people and begin to learn what relevance their beliefs have in today's society. Asatru and the Norse ways are waiting for you to embrace them and follow in the footsteps of your ancestors.
