Although the Arizona Cardinals fell short of making the NFL playoffs this season, there are some positive trends that are now pillars of this current iteration of the team. One, namely, is on full display by playoffs teams currently: reverting back to a heavy rush attack. For what seemed like forever, it looked like the NFL was moving towards a pass-heavy era, where wide receivers were paid handsomely, and running backs were somewhat forgotten. It seems like things are swiftly changing course. The Arizona Cardinals are definitely benefactors of that. With an efficient running game led by James Conner, Trey Benson, and Kyler Murray, offensive coordinator Drew Petzing has something cooking. The balance of the pass game is where Petzing needs to perfect things ahead of the 2025 season but, the Cardinals have the arsenal to go head to any with most of the best rush attacks in the league. Another thing that the playoffs have shown is a reminder that, if a team doesn't have a good offensive line, they've got no shot. While the Cardinals have a clear need at pass rush and defensive line help altogether ahead of the 2025 season, offensive line should still be their top concern entering free agency and the draft. Also, projected to not have a compensatory pick yet again, it shows how far the Cardinals needed to come from when Monti Ossenfort and Jonathan Gannon took over before the 2023 season. Arizona Cardinals offense has looked very different the last couple seasons since the hiring of Drew Petzing as offensive coordinator. While a seemingly boring foundation of running the ball and featuring the tight end, Petzing has shown stability from the offensive coordinator spot and it's translated to on-field production. While not perfect, it's a vast difference from the more high-flying offense that Kliff Kingsbury ran. Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals offense struggled at times this season, while thriving other times. Arizona Cardinals are going into Week 17 on the outside looking in for the 2024 NFL playoff picture. They've also got a pivotal NFC West playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Arizona Cardinals were flexed to play the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night in what was set to be another "win and stay in playoff contention" game for the Cardinals, and then they lost to the Carolina Panthers in Week 16 making this game a moot point for playoff purposes.
