Taijuan Walker tossed 6-scoreless, while Kyle Schwarber blasted a 444ft home run as the Philadelphia Phillies completed the Sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 3-1 win. Walker at the very least bought himself a reprieve from Phillies fans that wanted him caught at the end of last year or even during spring training. The 32 year-old righty allow just three hits, issued one walk and hit one batter but kept the Rockies from crossing home plate. The win for Walker marked his first start in his last 34 where he was able to throw 6 innings, without allowing a run. A stretch that dates back to June 6th 2023, when he held the Tigers scoreless for 7 innings. Walkers’ effort was backed by an RBI double from Bryce Harper in the 5th as well as a 444 foot solo home run from Kyle Schwarber in the 7th. JT Realmuto added another run by scoring on a wild pitch in the eighth. Realmuto went 3-for-3 on the day with a walk. Jose Alvarado came in for the save in the 9th inning and labored through his one inning of work but did get the job done despite allowing three hits one run and a walk in the ninth. Zack Wheeler struck out 10, while Edmundo Sosa stayed RED HOT as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies, 5-1. Wheeler kept the Rockies bats at bay over his seven innings, allowing just one run on a solo homer to Hunter Goodman in the 7th, but that’s all Colorado was able to get off the Phillies’ ace. Wheeler allowed just 3 hits while issuing no walks in his first win of the season. For an offense that is usually reliant on the long ball, the Phillies did a great job of manufacturing runs. Edmundo Sosa led the charge with another multi-hit game, his 4th in as many games including a clutch two-run double with the bases loaded in the 8th. Kyle Schwarber started the scoring with an RBI double in the 4th inning that plated Alec Bohm. Then Schwarbs scored later in the inning with some great heads up baserunning. With Schwarber on third, J.T. Realmuto hit a short dribbler just barely onto the infield grass, Scharber read the play perfectly and scored when Rockies’ starting pitcher Kyle Freeland threw to first, the Phils’ DH broke for home and scored. The Philadelphia Phillies won their home opener against the Colorado Rockies 6-1 thanks in large part to a solid start by Cristopher Sanchez and a clutch at bat from Edmundo Sosa! The Phillies bats’ went scoreless through Sanchez’ 5.1 inning of work. Tough break for Sanchez who left the game with one out in the 6th after giving up a solo home run. The Phillies offense would pick him up though. Bryson Stott stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 7th with two outs and blooped a double into shallow right field. Phillies skipper Rob Thompson then had Trea Turner pinch-hit for Brandon Marsh. Turner delivered by drawing a walk. With runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs, Sosa stepped up and drove a 0-1 slider into center field for a 2-run double, giving the Phillies a 2-1 lead. After that it was a power display for the Phillies, Kyle Schwarber smashed a 434ft 2-run homer to center. Then in the 8th, Max Kepler hit his first homer as a Phillie, followed by Nick Castellanos who hit his first homer of the season. The Philadelphia Phillies take their first loss of the season losing to the Washington Nationals 5-1. Aaron Nola got off to a dominant start for the first 3 innings of his 2025 season but unfortunately the Nationals were able to get to him in the 4th inning. Josh Bell hit a three-run homer off the Phillies’ righty to give the Nats a 3-0 lead. Washington struck again in the 6th inning this time with a 2-run home run courtesy of Nathaniel Lowe. The Phillies’ bats didn't do much to back up their starting pitcher as they went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They even loading the bases in the 7th and 9th innings, but their only run came on a base-loaded ground out by Rafael Marchan in the 9th. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 11-6 thanks to Jesus Luzardo’s solid Phils’ debut and Homers from Stott, Schwarber and Marsh! Luzardo struck out 11 Nationals over his 5 innings, joining Hall of Famer Jim Bunning with the second most strike outs in a Phillies debut. Bunning struck out 11 Mets over 9 innings in 1964. The Phillies line-up was sure not to waste Luzardo’s efforts. Bryson Stott, Kyle Schwarber all homered. The Philadelphia Phillies opened their 2025 campaign with a 7-3 win over the Washington Nationals in 10 innings! Alec Bohm came up with game winning hit in the 10th inning, a 2-run double to the left center field gap! Zack Wheeler started for the Phillies and tossed 6 inning of 1 run baseball while striking out 8 Nationals. The Phils managed no runs of support for Wheeler while he was in that game, in fact, they managed just one hit. The Phils’ offense struggled, striking out 13 times in the first 6 innings against MacKenzie Gore. The offense didn’t get going until Bryce Harper smacked a solo homer to center field in the 7th that tied the game at one. Then Kyle Schwarber followed in the inning and hit a solo homer to give the Phillies the lead. They would go up 3-1 in the 8th when a wild pitch brought Max Kepler home from third. Newcomer Jordan Romano gave up 2 runs in his Phillies’ debut in a struggled filled 8th inning where he threw 29 pitches, only 15 for strikes.
