Spencer Hall Helps Preview the College Football Playoffs | 12.20
12/20/2024
On today’s episode, Spencer Hall of the Shutdown Fullcast Podcast joins Bomani Jones to give us a preview of the College Football Playoffs which begins this weekend. But before they get to that, in honor of the holidays Spencer explains why the backscratcher is one of the best Christmas gifts you can give someone. (0:45) From there they discuss the big weekend in College football by breaking down the first game — Notre Dame vs Indiana. The guys explain why this will be extremely painful for Notre Dame and why Indiana’s Coach Curt Cignetti is a bit of an asshole. (7:34) Then they transition to Dabo Swinney and Clemson’s matchup vs Texas. Is Clemson QB Cade Klubnik a system quarterback even though he had a monster year offensively? And why has Texas stopped scoring points, is it a Quinn Ewers problem or is it Steve Sarkisian’s fault? (14:54) The next game on the list is Penn State vs SMU, which has the guys asking just how many people will show up to that game? It’s going to be 25 degrees and state college is not easy to get to. (20:25) And finally the guys wrap the show by talking about the Jim Tressel documentary, the Woody Johnson news with Jerry Jeudy, and Bill Belichick’s new gig at UNC. (32:30) . . . Travonne Edwards on the NBA Cup Finals: Does Anyone Care About This? | 12.18
12/18/2024
Bomani Jones is joined by Travonne Edwards to discuss all things NBA. The guys recap last nights NBA Cup Finals between the Bucks and the Thunder, and ask the simple question, does anyone care about this? Is $500k enough incentive for these players to play defense and care about winning the Cup? (5:55) Speaking of caring, did the Thunder even care about the game because the amount of 3-pointers they missed makes it seems otherwise. (17:20) Then the guys have a conversation around why we need to make defense and mid-range shots cool again. Do we need more personalities like Dillon Brooks and Patrick Beverley to help increase the intensity on that side of the court? (22:10) And finally with the ratings for the league free falling, the guys try and think of solutions for the future of the NBA with a league not involving LeBron and Steph. Travis Hunter Wins the Heisman and Week 15 NFL Recap: Lions Lose and Bills Are For Real | 12.16
12/16/2024
On today's episode of The Right Time, Bomani Jones recaps everything that happened this weekend in College Football with the Heisman Trophy celebration and in Week 15 of the NFL. But first, Bomani starts the show by calling out some of the Lions haters in the live chat. (1:00) That leads to Bomani breaking down that matchup against the Buffalo Bills, especially all the injuries the Lions came away with following that game. Will the Lions be able to overcome them or will it be a tough postseason journey for the Honolulu Blue? Then Bomani gives flowers to Josh Allen who might have locked up the MVP award after his performance. (2:20) He also praises the Eagles for their win but highlights Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown who called out the media after their win, even though the issue was clearly between the two of them. (10:06) After briefly discussing the Chiefs, who despite their victory might be in some big trouble with the injury to Patrick Mahomes, (15:50) Bomani finally gets to Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy. Bomani explains why it was most definitely the correct choice because of everything he did this season on both sides of the field but also if you voted for Ashton Jeanty it was fine. Now while we should be celebrating Travis Hunter, the drama surrounding him and his girlfriend following the events of the this weekend have overshadowed an iconic performance on the field. Bomani gives Travis prudent advice and wishes him good luck as he navigates this portion of his life. (18:29) And as always, we wrap the show with a round of If You Haven't Heard stories and your voicemail stories about the time you were shocked to meet a friends significant other. (8:37) Speaking of Netflix, the guys discuss the news of Mariah Carey performing for the NFL on Christmas Day along with Beyoncé. Is this officially the end of the NBA on Christmas Day? 12/11/2024
Bomani Jones is joined by former NFL lineman Andrew Whitworth, co-host of the Fitz & Whit podcast with Ryan Fitzpatrick, to discuss all things football. But first, Bomani starts the show by asking Whit about his podcast with Fitz and whether or not he’s enjoying his new life on TV every week. (1:30) Then Bomani transitions to the 2001 LSU team which somehow has a ton of players from that roster currently on TV, including head coach Nick Saban. (5:40) After hearing some great Nick Saban stories from Whit, Bomani asks him what the biggest difference is from playing college football back then to now. Whit explains that the NIL money is the big one and why it’s hard for him to even give advice to younger players in college football now, because it’s so different from when he played. (10:55) From there Bomani brings up the Los Angeles Rams to discuss their season to date and why they both think the Rams can make a sneaky push into the postseason. (18:17) Then following the break, they discuss another one of Whit’s former teams, the Cincinnati Bengals. Whit shares his love of Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, but also explains some of the big problems they had this season. (29:04) And finally, the guys talk about the renaissance of throwback wide receivers, Whit’s thoughts on the Lions and Bills, and why the Steelers this season might be the real deal. (36:40) . . . Week 14 NFL Recap: Salty Wide Receivers and Why the College Football Playoffs is Broken | 12.9
12/9/2024
On today's episode, Bomani Jones breaks down Week 14 in the NFL by looking at the teams with the salty wide receivers. He starts in New York where the Giants and the Jets both continue to lose games this season. We hear from Garrett Wilson who says the team currently has losing in their DNA, and Malik Nabers who expertly answers a question about the Giants being a dumpster fire. (1:08) After hearing from AJ Brown who is somehow salty even after the Eagles won this Sunday, we transition to the Bills, who despite their loss to the Rams, saw an iconic 6 touchdown performance from MVP frontrunner Josh Allen. (14:17) Then Bomani gets to the announcement of this years College Football Playoffs, which according to Bo, is a broken system that is designed to never properly determine the best team in college football. He explains yet again that this is just a product to enhance a TV show and that the sport will never get better from this bracket. (20:02) And finally, another round of If You Haven't Heard stories and your voicemails on the whackest Christmas presents you've ever received. 12/4/2024
Bomani Jones is joined by The Kid Mero, co-host of ‘7pm in Brooklyn’ and the Victory Light podcast, to discuss all things Kendrick Lamar vs Drake. The guys talk about how they both think the album is mid, which is not a bad thing, because society does not know the true definition of mid. Mid is not a diss! (0:40) They breakdown Kendrick’s upcoming Super Bowl performance and how he’ll have to adjust some of the lyrics for the national audience even with Jay-Z helming the halftime show performances. (4:57) Bomani brings up ‘GNX’ again and the fact that there weren’t any Drake references in the record. It’s ultimately a good thing since Drake lawsuit is the ultimate L. How does Drake move on from here and how should he change the way he moves in terms of this beef. Then Bomani compares Drake to an iconic twitter moment which has Mero losing it. A Weekend of Flag Planting in College Football and NFL Week 13 Recap, Plus IYHH and Voicemails | 12.2
12/2/2024
In today's episode, Bomani Jones recaps everything that went down this weekend in College Football and the NFL. He starts the show by sharing his frustration with the current Thanksgiving week schedule in the NFL. Having the Thursday games, along with the Friday game, completely devalues the Sunday slate. (0:50) That leads Bo to breakdown the one good game on Sunday; Bengals vs Steelers, where we have two teams going in completely different directions this season. (4:30) Then Bomani discusses the Bills and the Ravens which includes a conversation about the MVP Award. The Bills beat up the 49ers with Josh Allen winning the game for his team, while the Ravens lost to the Eagles and Lamar Jackson was not at his best. Lamar wasn't the reason his team won or lost but at some point this season you have to be the reason either way. (6:08) From there, Bomani finally transitions to this wild weekend in College Football that involved way too many flags being planted. His take stands firm on the idea of outlawing Flag Planting because it leads to fighting. And if fighting is allowed, then flag planting is cool but this weekend showed that whenever an opposing team plants a flag, it automatically leads to a fight. It's the height of disrespect, and disrespect will not be tolerated. (17:33) And finally, another round of If You Haven't Heard stories and Bomani answers three voicemail questions about anything. Nate Tice on Cold Weather Football, Anthony Richardson, and Iconic Big Athletic Quarterback’s | 11.20
11/20/2024
Bomani Jones is joined by Nate Tice, of Yahoo Sports, to discuss all things NFL. Bomani catches up with Nate, the pair discuss the current state of weather between NYC and Las Vegas, and realize just how old they are with this conversation. (0:35) That inevitably leads to a discussion about cold weather football and how smaller players, especially quarterbacks, are not built for the cold vs bigger guys. From there, Bomani asks Nate to help him decide whether or not the Steelers are legitimately good this season. Nate breaks down their defense, offensive live, and admits that even with Russell Wilson as quarterback this team can make some noise in the playoffs. (7:51) After briefly touching on the Chargers and the Bills, the guys transition to Anthony Richardson’s performance this past weekend. (16:22) They discuss why the Colts can’t give up on him, which leads to a conversation about former big boy QB’s like Daunte Culpepper and Donovan McNabb who have succeeded in the league. (33:35) Finally after reminiscing about Mike Vick’s prime, Bomani ends the episode by asking Nate to speak praises about his Detroit Lions. (53:20) . . . Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson Fight Reactions and Week 11 NFL Recap: The Detroit Lions are #1 | 11.18
11/18/2024
Bomani Jones kicks off today's episode by reveling in the Detroit Lions victory of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 52-6 beat down helped prove that Bomani's Lions are the best team in the NFL and Bo asks the question why Doug Pederson still has his job following that loss? (0:50) From there, Bomani highlights the Bills defeating the Chiefs from two perspectives. The first being, the Chiefs finally met their match after barely squeaking by with victories over the last few weeks, which reminded Bomani of Tim Tebow. Secondly, the Bills win will create the narrative of Josh Allen for MVP even though he hasn't been as good as Lamar Jackson. (3:40) Then Bomani transitions to the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight earlier this weekend which ultimately ended up as a disappointing event all together. Bomani explains why you automatically lost by even deciding to watch the event, why the fight was so mediocre, and what this says about the sport of boxing. (16:04) And finally, another round of If You Haven't Heard stories and your Voicemails on the dumbest person you've worked on a group project together with. David Aldridge on Top 100 Basketball Players of All Time | 11.15
11/15/2024
Bomani Jones is joined by David Aldridge, of The Athletic, to discuss his new book called “The Basketball 100.” The guys begin the conversation by talking about the process of making the book and some of the forgotten bucket getters in the league like Elgin Baylor and David Bing. (1:00) They also examine the 1970s which could go down as the most forgotten and democratic era of the NBA. From there, David brings up dynasties and it leads Bomani to ask him whether he prefers dominance or parity following his conversation with Mina Kimes earlier this week. (9:35) Then Bomani goes through the list of 100 players and asks David his thought process on them while writing this book. Players like Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Irving, and whether or not Scottie Pippen was underrated or overrated. (28:50) And finally, the guys chat about Moses Malone’s boring game, Jimmy Butler being #99 on the list, and why Charles Barkley was easily the best player on the iconic Dream Team. 11/13/2024
Bomani Jones is joined by Mina Kimes, ESPN NFL Analyst and Host of the Mina Kimes Show with Lenny, to discuss all things NFL. But first, Bomani tells Mina about his weekend which involved a Puzzles convention and the pair chat about their love and competitiveness for all things puzzles. (1:00) Then after hearing about the news regarding Anthony Richardson becoming the starter again, they breakdown this move and what it means for the Indianapolis Colts moving forward. (19:15) After briefly teasing it on social media, Mina and Bomani argue about what they prefer in sports, Parity or Dominance? Bomani argues that he loves dominance in most sports whereas Mina prefers parity especially in football. 11/11/2024
Bomani Jones kicks off today’s show by discussing the slippery slope that is losing. (1:00) He begins the discussion on losers by talking about the Dallas Cowboys who continue to look really bad. With Dak Prescott out for the year, the Cowboys future is bleak behind Cooper Rush and Trey Lance. Plus Jerry Jones is crashing out after his stadium caused CeeDee Lamb to drop a touchdown catch. Are the Cowboys too far gone to try and salvage this season? (3:15) Then Bomani briefly brings up the New York Jets who are also down bad and unsalvageable, before finally talking abut the Winners for this week. (13:45) Are the Chiefs the least impressive 9-0 team of all time? (15:55) And does this week confirm that the Detroit Lions are the best team in the NFL following their comeback win over the Houston Texans? (19:15) From there, Bomani speaks on the recent news in the NBA and why he wishes there was more physicality. After the scuffle between Jaylen Brown and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bomani wishes there was more of a fight following that incident. And with Chet Holmgren’s injury, Bomani sends flowers to one of his favorite players who embodies the dog mentality. (23:07) Finally, another round of If You Haven’t Heard stories and Bomani answers your Voicemail questions. Foxworth Friday: Election Reactions and Catching Up with NFL Storylines | 11.8
11/8/2024
Domonique Foxworth is back on The Right Time with Bomani Jones for another edition of Foxworth Friday. The guys catch up and Bomani brings up an issue directed solely toward himself. With the strange increase of warm weather on the east coast, Bomani can’t get over the fact that it’s hot in NYC in November and that he has somehow lost his winter jacket. (0:55) From there they recap the reactions they’ve witnessed first hand to the results of this year’s election. The guys discuss ow this happened, and how this just reminds them of 2016. (5:45) Then they transition to football, where Bomani asks Domonique a variety of questions about to league to get his elevated insight. (33:09) Why is Russell Wilson playing well again after being an afterthought in this league? Is there any dispute that Bo’s Detroit Lions are the best team in football? (38:57) And if people say running backs don’t matter, why did the loss of Christian McCaffrey mean so much to the 49ers? Plus what is going on with the Chiefs, why are the Ravens so good this season, and Domonique retells his Haloti Ngata story. (44:20) . . .
