Don’t Be Spoiled - Part 1
9/15/2025
As Christians, there’s always the temptation to look for Jesus… plus. Jesus plus rules. Jesus plus some mystical or spiritual experience. Jesus plus physical disciplines. Today, Pastor John shows from the book of Colossians that there is no “plus” in Jesus. And he warns us against those who might be trying to push their personal “spirituality” agenda on us. You don’t need to follow a certain diet or observe certain days to be spiritual. You don’t need a special “experience.” You just need Jesus.
Now, let’s join Pastor John in the book of Colossians, chapter 2, as he begins his message, Don’t Be Spoiled.

If God could give you any gift, what would be the most amazing gift He could give you? How about a life free from pain? Perhaps the perfect family? Or, just paying off all your credit card debts. Plus your mortgage. Today, Pastor John shows that what God gave you far exceeds any of that or anything you could possibly imagine. Did you know that God wants to completely, totally, absolutely, and permanently forgive you of everything you’ve ever done wrong? It’s available to you, all in Jesus Christ.

Imagine if someone left you an inheritance of ten million dollars and you were living in poverty. But somehow, you didn’t know that you had inherited the money. Would it do you any good? Today, Pastor John stresses how crucial it is to know what your position is in Christ in order to live the victorious Christian life. You need to know that you are in Christ, and what blessings that means He’s given you. In Christ, you are saved, you’re born again, and you’ve been given a new nature. All this from Christ.

Complete In Christ (Study 1) - Part 2

Most people in the Western world have heard of Jesus. They know that He was a teacher. Probably a very insightful teacher. Some people try to follow some of His teachings, such as the “golden rule.” But today, Pastor John reminds us that being a Christian isn’t just about doing certain things. It’s having a genuine relationship with God. And you can only have that relationship through God Incarnate: Jesus Christ. And in Christ, you don’t just have some of what you need for life; you have everything.

There are a lot of people who believe a lot of things. And usually, if you ask them, they’ll have reasons that are inwardly based. It “feels” right. Or, it “works for me.” Or sometimes, people believe whatever they happen to have been taught without really thinking through it themselves. Today, Pastor John warns: don’t base your beliefs on yourself. God provided the Bible as your authoritative truth. Build your life on the scriptures. And the scriptures always point you to Christ.

Paul’s Loving Heart - Part 2
9/8/2025
How should we live? What should be the basis of our thoughts and ideas, our decisions and actions? Many people will align their lives with a particular political party. Others will subscribe to one of our pop culture ideals. Some just “do their own thing.” Today, Pastor John urges us to plant our feet on the only immovable, eternal, solid foundation that exists: Christ Jesus the Lord. Do you want to “love your neighbor”? Do you want to “will the good of the other”? Then point them to Christ the Solid Rock.
Now, let’s join Pastor John in the book of Colossians, chapter 2, as he continues his message, Paul’s Loving Heart.

Paul’s Loving Heart - Part 1
9/5/2025
All we need is love. Love is the answer. But what IS love? Is it simply a bland tolerance for everybody? Live and let live? As Pastor John turns the corner into the second chapter of the book of Colossians today, he gives us a true and genuine example of real love: the apostle Paul. Paul’s concern for these believers was intense from his heart. But that led Him to a passionate desire to see them firmly established in Jesus Christ as Lord. How do you interpret “love”? How do you put it into practice?

The Marks Of True Ministry - Part 2
9/4/2025
What responsibilities do you have in your life? If you have a job, then you have to answer to your boss. If you’re married and/or have children, then you’re responsible for taking care of your family. When you drive a car, you’re accountable to the laws of the road. Today, Pastor John shows that your greatest responsibility is to the gifts you’ve received from the Lord. God has given you unique gifts and placed you into specific circumstances. He has given you a designated ministry.

The Marks Of True Ministry - Part 1
9/3/2025
Probably you know some ministers, or pastors, or preachers – whatever you call them – who you really admire. They seem to have all kinds of qualities that you recognize as being Christ-like. But did you know that all Christians are called to aspire to these same qualities? Today, as Pastor John outlines the marks of the apostle Paul’s ministry, he shows how those same characteristics apply to all believers. You may not have a title in your local congregation, but you, too, are a minister of Christ.

The Supreme Reconciliation - Part 2
9/2/2025
In the world today, you can find many people who stand in opposition to God. Some are outspoken atheists. Others are bitter or disenchanted former church-goers. And there are people who are evangelizing a religious message that stands directly opposed to Christianity. But today, Pastor John reminds us that EVERY ONE of us is by nature an enemy of God. But, thank God, He did something about it. God is calling you. He wants to soften your heart and draw you by His grace into His salvation.

The Supreme Reconciliation - Part 1
9/1/2025
If you ask people, if you listen to the radio or television, or if you scroll through social media, you’ll hear lots and lots of problems. And often, you’ll hear ideas about how to solve those problems. But, as Pastor John points out today, the only true solution to the fundamental problem of every human is reconciliation with God. No matter what you’ve done, God wants to declare you righteous. No matter how far away you are, God wants to adopt you. No matter how much of an enemy you are, God wants to befriend you.

The Preeminent Christ - Part 2
8/29/2025
Who is in charge of this world? Depending on your beliefs, you might point to political rulers. Maybe cultural influencers. Some feel that the environment is the ultimate arbiter. Today, Pastor John clearly demonstrates from the Scriptures that Jesus Christ is the absolute Sovereign, not only over this planet, but over the entire Creation. He created it; He’s its purpose and goal; and He sustains it. He’s also the head over His body on earth, the Church. How can you demonstrate the sovereignty of Christ in your life?

If you were to ask your friends who they think Jesus is, you’d probably get a variety of answers. Some of the most common would be that He’s a teacher, or a philosopher, or a spiritual guru. Today, Pastor John shows that those aren’t new answers. In the city of Colossae, there were teachers saying that Jesus was just one of many emanations from God. This led the apostle Paul to write what many theologians have called “the greatest Christological passage in the Bible.” So, who do you say Jesus is?

Reasons To Be Thankful - Part 2
8/27/2025
When you look around at the world, there’s certainly no end to the things we need. We have poverty. We have crime. There’s enmity between nations. Marriages and families struggle. Of all our needs, which is the greatest? Pastor John shows today that there is one and only one need in every person’s life. And that’s forgiveness. You may not think you have a large list of things to be thankful for. But there’s one thing on your list that’s worth more than everything else put together: forgiveness through Christ.

Reasons To Be Thankful - Part 1
8/26/2025
You’ve probably heard the phrase “blessings in Christ.” But what does that actually mean? Is it about having health, wealth, and happiness? And is it something only for some Christians? Because a lot of believers don’t have these – or they don’t have ALL of them. Today, Pastor John emphatically asserts that ALL Christians have ALL of the blessings that are in Christ. And that includes you. But what are those blessings? If you don’t know what they are, then you certainly can’t be appreciative of them.

Paul's Pattern For Prayer - Part 2
8/25/2025
How would you describe your knowledge of the Bible? Is it primarily a memorization of facts, sort of like being an expert on American history? Is it a set of moral standards and rules for getting along with people, kinda like a self-help and success book? Today, Pastor John emphasizes that the Word of God, containing the Will of God, understood with the help of the Spirit of God, goes far deeper than any of those external things. And you can start right now, praying for a personal knowledge of God.

Paul's Pattern For Prayer - Part 1
8/22/2025
If you were to be perfectly honest, how much would you say you “desire” to pray? If you’re like a lot of people, it’s something you know you have to do, but it doesn’t seem to be as interesting or exciting as a lot of other things surrounding you. Today, Pastor John explains what may be the problem. Only God the Holy Spirit can give you the desire to pray. So, if you’re not longing to pray, or if you get discouraged with prayer, there’s one place you can start. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with the yearning to pray.

The Gospel - Part 2
8/21/2025
When people think of “the church” today, what do they usually perceive? Some people will see it as a political organization: some churches are red; some are blue. Others may think of the church as a self-help group, like a Twelve Step program. Today, Pastor John asserts what people should think of first when they think of the church, and that’s the Person of Jesus Christ. In your life, and your relationships, it’s your job to make sure that, whatever else people see in you, they see Jesus First.

The Gospel - Part 1
8/20/2025
How many religions can you find in our culture today? And then start listing off all the self-help philosophies and worldviews you encounter. Where do people come up with these?? Today, Pastor John contrasts human philosophies with Christianity. The Christian faith is not just a collection of wise ideas from enlightened individuals. It’s not the majority view of whoever is leading the culture. When you put your faith in Jesus, you’re placing your life in the real, historical, Incarnated Word of God.

Paul's Grateful Heart - Part 2
8/19/2025
As Christians, we know that we are “saved” by Christ. But what does that really mean? Is it something only for after we die, or does it have any benefit for our earthly life? Today, Pastor John explains how thoroughly and completely we are saved by Christ. When you came to Christ in faith, you were saved from the penalty of sin. Now that you are in Christ, you are being saved from the power of sin. And when you reach eternity, you will be completely saved from the presence of sin. Now that’s Good News!
