Since the government did an about-face on forgiving student loan debt, worries mounted that defaults would surge, and it's looking like that is starting to happen. About 13% of student-loan borrowers are at least 90 days past due on their payments, that's up from just under 8.5 percent in 2020, putting millions of Americans on track to take a massive hit to their credit scores.
