What is Renaissance music? Renaissance is the musical era after medieval and before baroque. The Renaissance era started approximately around 1400 up to 1650. At around the time of 1440, printing presses made distribution of music much broader and music became more popular. Renaissance music was much freer from medieval constraints on harmony, rhythm and melody. For example, the third and sixth interval was considered dissonant in medieval music, while in Renaissance it was allowed.
