WeFunk is an exploration of groove from a palette of three decades of funk and hip hop. The program features athletic DJ skills, regular features on sampled music (i.e., the original song and those that sample it), old and rarely-heard cuts of songs, as well as more recent grooves. We approach the program with an appreciation of funk, hip hop, their derivatives and their influences as part of an overall groove aesthetic. For this season of WeFunk, we plan to incorporate exploration of the common ground between hip hop and funk, more emphasis on older and lesser-known songs, and funk/hip hop music influenced by other genres.
