When You Know In Your Gut It's Time To Speak Up False Claims From Lisa Pratta

6/7/2025
For the first time, Lisa Pratta shares her story of going undercover as a whistleblower at a Big Pharma company and standing up to systemic corruption, greed, and harassment-all while caring for her special needs son as a single mother. When Lisa Pratta started her career as a pharmaceutical sales representative, she had no idea of the industry's depravity, and the endemic sexual harassment, bribery, and fraud she witnessed only got worse over time. Lisa hoped that might all change when she landed her dream job with a small company called Questcor which sold a drug that, when prescribed correctly, could help patients with multiple sclerosis. Yet Questcor realized they could make more money prescribing the drug incorrectly. While the FDA had approved the drug for two- to three-week treatments, Questcor was training, encouraging, and incentivizing its sales force to push a five-day treatment plan not backed by any science-and arbitrarily increased the drug's price to $28,000 for a single vial. Pratta recognized this as being not only dangerous for patients, but also highly illegal. As the single mother of a special-needs son, Lisa couldn't risk losing her job-but her moral compass also wouldn't allow her to stay silent. Thus began her double life as a whistleblower. For nearly a decade she clandestinely fed information to the Department of Justice. Resisting internal pressure to succumb to Questcor's illegal sales tactics, she was constantly harassed by supervisors and in danger of being fired, while the government offered her no protection in the event her betrayal was discovered. This incredible story offers an insider's look at the unscrupulous sales methods used by America's corrupt pharmaceutical industry, analyzes the levers they pull to extract ludicrous profits from the sick and dying, and is a page-turning portrait of one woman's epic fight against Big Pharma and a mother's heroic struggle to protect her family. The talented NYC-based comedian and singer-songwriter Sydney Kane has performed everywhere from off-off-off-barely-Broadway stages to the glamorous 9x16 iPhone screen, and beyond. With musical direction by David Dabbon (arranger for Oh, Mary!, Cat Cohen, Las Culturistas Culture Awards, SNL 50) and direction by Andrew Mullins. The special touches on super relatable topics about the endless, exhausting loop of modern dating. Through original songs, sketch comedy, and unfiltered storytelling, Sydney takes you on a PG-13 (leaning R) rated journey through the most universal experience there is: falling in love. From The Broadway Producer Of Hamilton And Rent Jeffrey Seller's Brings Us Theater Kid

6/4/2025
THEATER KID is a coming-of-age tale from one of the most successful American producers of our time, Jeffrey Seller, who is the only producer to have mounted two Pulitzer Prize-winning musicals-Hamilton and Rent. Before he was producing the musical hits of our generation, Jeffrey was just a kid coming to terms with his adoption, trying to understand his sexuality, and determined to escape his dysfunctional household in a poor neighborhood just outside Detroit. We see him find his voice through musical theater and move to New York, where he is determined to shed his past and make a name for himself on Broadway. But moving to the big city is never easy-especially not at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis-and Jeffrey learns to survive and thrive in the colorful and cutthroat world of commercial theatre. From his early days as an office assistant, to meeting Jonathan Larson and experiencing the triumph and tragedy of Rent, to working with Lin-Manuel Miranda on In the Heights and Hamilton, Jeffrey completely pulls back the curtain on the joyous and gut-wrenching process of making new musicals, finding new audiences, and winning a Tony Award-all the while finding himself. Told with Jeffrey's candid and captivating voice, THEATER KID is a gripping memoir about fighting through a hardscrabble childhood to make art on one's own terms, chasing a dream against many odds, and finding acceptance and community. As Lin-Manuel Miranda says of THEATER KID, "It belongs on your shelf next to Act One by Moss Hart-if you can manage to put it down; I certainly couldn't." Breaking It All Down Susan Dominus Releases The Family Dynamics

6/4/2025
In THE FAMILY DYNAMIC: A Journey into the Mystery of Sibling Success (Crown; on sale May 6, 2025), the acclaimed New York Times journalist Susan Dominus offers compelling profiles of six such families in search of the factors that led to their success—was it an inherited quality, a specific way of parenting, the influence of a sibling, or a twist of luck? Inspired by the iconic Brontë sisters, whose remarkable literary success prompted endless speculation, Dominus, the mother of twin teenagers, sought out contemporary high-achieving families who shared intimate stories of their upbringing. She introduces us to the Chens, young parents who fled their country’s one-child policy to open a Chinese restaurant in Appalachia—then sent four children to elite colleges and on to careers that give back in technology and medicine; the Groffs, whose claim to fame is not just an award-winning novelist but an Olympic athlete and a notable entrepreneur; the Wojcickis, whose daughters made inroads as STEM pioneers in Silicon Valley; and the Murguias, who rose from exceptionally humble origins to become powerful jurists and civil rights champions. Woven into these and other stories is an account of centuries of scientific research into the ongoing question of nature versus nurture. Elegantly written and extensively researched, The Family Dynamic is more than a checklist of how-to’s. It’s a deep and moving exploration of the complexity of family life and the rewards—and burdens—of ambition. Breathing Music To Life Through A Harmonica Jerry Portnoy Releases Dancing With Muddy

6/4/2025
Jerry Portnoy grew up in Chicago hearing the blues being played outside his father's rug store on famed Maxwell Street during the late 1940s and early '50s. After dropping out of college, he became immersed in the colorful world of pool hustlers like Cornbread Red, and Minnesota Fats as he managed the largest pool hall in Chicago. During a stint as a paratrooper early in the Vietnam war, he applied for discharge as a conscientious objector, and lived in San Francisco during 1967's "summer of love." While bumming around Europe the following year, Portnoy heard the blues again on a record by Sonny Boy Williamson and instantly became obsessed with mastering blues harmonica. He returned to Chicago and in 1974 he was playing in small Black clubs at night when Muddy Waters plucked him from his day job at Cook County Jail to fill the historic harmonica chair in his fabled band. Eric Clapton followed suit in 1991. In a career that took him from ghetto taverns to the White House and the Royal Albert Hall, he went from the raggedy vans and cheap roadside motels of the blues world to the private jets and five-star hotels of the rock world. Between those two very different gigs was a struggle to survive the vagaries of the music business and the pressures of life on the road. In a remarkable life, he also assisted in surgery, lodged in a Moroccan house of ill repute, and dined at Giorgio Armani's. Dancing with Muddy details the surprising, lively, and sometimes bumpy ride of a blues harmonica legend. Dancing with Muddy: Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, and My Lucky Life In and Out of the Blues is the memoir of Blues harmonica legend Jerry Portnoy, who details the surprising, lively, and sometimes bumpy ride of his life and career. Jerry was discovered and recruited by Muddy for the prestigious role of harmonica player in his band after hearing him play the instrument in clubs on Chicago's South Side. Jerry got to play in the White House, the Royal Albert Hall, and many of the world's stages. He also found himself in shocking and exciting situations, like assisting in surgery, dining at Giorgio Armani's and working at the Cook County jail. With Blues music seeing a renewed interest thanks to the immense success of the movie Sinners, Jerry can be a valuable insider voice to the genre's history and evolution. The Day Randy Bachman Left The Guess Who Music Historian Scott G Shea Breaks It Down

6/3/2025
Back in May 1970, Randy Bachman left the Guess Who after getting into a disagreement with his bandmates. He’d been with the group in its various incarnations for 10 years and was invited to join by its founder, Chad Allan. Interestingly, at the time of Randy’s departure, Chad had already been gone for four years, leaving shortly after the arrival of Burton Cummings, and the two teamed up to form Brave Belt in 1971. That group eventually morphed into Bachman-Turner Overdrive, but, before they broke nationwide, Chad left again. In his new article for the Strange Brew, writer Scott G. Shea examines Chad Allan’s story, how he softly started a rock revolution in Canada and why he left before each band broke internationally. I hope you’ll make some time to have Scott G. Shea, a leading music historian and author of the best-selling book, “All the Leaves Are Brown: How the Mamas & the Papas Came Together and Broke Apart,” on your program to discuss the not only the story of Chad Allan, but the history of the Guess Who and BTO, the incredible music they made and how revolutionary they were. The Guess Who was particularly unique in that they found a place on both the Top 40 AM band and the more progressive album rock stations on the FM side. Theirs is a fascinating story of friendship, luck, breakups, reunions and happenstance.
