Write Your Story: How to Stay Married: An Unpopular Take on a Popular Book

8/22/2025
More than a year ago, someone recommended I read the memoir called How to Stay Married by Harrison Scott Key. It reminded them, in some ways, of my memoir from 2017 about a marriage crisis, called Indestructible. It took me more than a year to hit “play” on the audible file, but by the time I started it, I also finished in a matter of a few days. The speed at which I consumed the book, however, does not necessarily reflect how I felt about the story. There are certain elements that must be present in a narrative in order for it to feel complete. I detail these in my book, Write Your Story and teach the framework in my workshops by the same name. Some of these elements were, in my honest opinion, missing from this text. It’s Not You, It’s My Hormones (Couch Talks)

8/21/2025
This week, Amy and Kat are tackling a listener question that many couples can probably relate to: What can men do when they don’t really understand hormonal mood swings—but also don’t want to feel like they’re constantly on the receiving end of them? Whether you’re the one experiencing the mood swings or the partner trying to navigate them, this episode is about building understanding, grace, and a little humor into the messy, human parts of relationships. Because at the end of the day—feelings are real, hormones are powerful, and connection is possible when we slow down enough to feel things together. Watch us on Youtube HERE! Our Life Check-In Exercise (and the Random Laughs It Sparked)

8/19/2025
Amy and Kat kick things off with a few thoughts about the Amy Bradley case (if you know, you know) before diving into a monthly check-in exercise that Amy’s bringing to the table this week. She walks herself and Kat through 5 prompts (what they’re proud of, grateful for, affirming, and working on next) and encourages you to try it out too (see the prompts below!) From small wins like finally hanging curtains and hiring a house cleaner to quirky habits (stretching that’s actually just lying on the floor), it’s a mix of relatable and comical…especially Kat’s book recommendation that comes up and Amy’s dryer-ball obsession! Amy also shares the very weird moment when a guy tried hitting on her while she was with her kids and reads a quick thing about why wives might be the ultimate “cheat code to life.” Want to try the check-in for yourself or with friends and family? Just finish these 5 sentences with whatever feels true for you right now: This month, I’m proud of accomplishing… One thing I’m grateful for is… My affirmation for the next month is… One habit I cultivated this month was… One thing I want to accomplish next month is… Click HERE for details on the Top Golf fundraiser Amy is hosting with Ben for foster kids in Nashville. Can ChatGPT Be Your Therapist? (Couch Talks)

8/14/2025
Amy and Kat are tackling your listener questions this week that came in through Instagram. By the way, are you following the show on TikTok or IG yet? @FeelingThingsPodcast is the handle for all things. Today they cover FT merch updates, Kat’s resistance to watching FRIENDS, and the reality of mixing friendship with work. The big topic is whether ChatGPT can be a substitute for a real therapist. Since Kat is a licensed therapist, she definitely has thoughts on this. They discuss the troubling ways AI can give harmful advice to teens. They also weigh in on Biopelle serum, linking their outfits, and keeping SIB (“sorry, I bitchy”) alive. Watch us on Youtube HERE! POV: You Think Therapy Is a Waste of Time

8/12/2025
What’s the difference between relief and restoration? Amy sat down with her friend Chase Locke to talk about it, and we think you’re going to love his perspective. Chase is a total country boy...raised to pull himself up by the bootstraps and just keep going. Therapy? Yeah, he didn’t think it was for him. Fast forward to now, and he’ll tell you that our very own in-house therapist (and co-host!) Kat Van Buren played a big role in helping him realize that talking to a third party could actually make a huge difference. Chase shares that he's forever grateful to his therapist, Jared, for helping him work through some difficult things. One of his biggest takeaways from Jared: the difference between just finding relief and actually finding restoration!! We hope Chase's story is encouraging anyone who’s ever thought therapy was a waste of time. Click HERE for details on the Top Golf fundraiser Amy is hosting with Ben for foster kids in Nashville. We’re asking the question we usually breeze past: How are you…really? Craving Change, Even When Life’s Fine

8/5/2025
Amy and Kat are embracing feelings this week, like awe, accomplishment, and the occasional spiral about dead bunny symbolism. They talk about resisting the urge to make a huge life change for a dopamine hit, the overwhelming chaos of reading instructions, and the satisfaction of moving your couch ½ an inch. Write Your Story: Relax, Nobody Else Is Thriving Either

8/3/2025
Do you ever get the feeling like everybody else is thriving and you’re the only one struggling? Maybe you’re scrolling social media and see a hundred smiling faces. Or maybe you bump into a friend at the grocery story who says they’re doing great! Everything is going great! All is well with their world! You might start to wonder if maybe it’s just you that is struggling financially or stuck in a dead-end job or circling the same block in your relationships again and again and again. Self-help (and all of culture) seems to say, “you can fix this!” “You can change this!” “Just three easy steps!” but can you… really? What if you’ve tried to “fix this” and not been successful? What does that say about you? We’re unpacking off of this on today’s episode. If you need a permission slip to be imperfect, this one is for you. What's God Got To Do With It?: God, the Brain, and the Body Battle (Part 5)

8/2/2025
Welcome back for Part 5 of the official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts. This week we’re diving deep into a crucial part of the food and body image conversation—what Leanne likes to call your “body brain.” If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve been exploring how faith intersects with our struggles around food and self image. Today, we’re turning our focus to the physical side of things, and how your body (and your perception of it) are deeply intertwined. We’ll be looking at this from both a nervous system and physiological perspective, but we can’t ignore the importance of how you view your body and your relationship with it. This episode isn’t about offering a quick fix; it’s about helping you understand the deeper layers that contribute to your struggles. Leanne also shares her personal journey of overcoming her own body image (and chronic pain) battles, so you can see that real, lasting change is possible...but it starts with breaking the chains of your own harsh self-criticism, guilt, and shame. The hope is that by the end of this episode, you’ll feel empowered to start dismantling your own beliefs and step into a new story about your body. Remember, this isn’t just about what you weigh or how you look—it’s about freeing yourself from the heavy burden of judgment and stepping into a place of peace and self-compassion. Write Your Story: Writing Advice That Might Hurt Your Feelings

7/25/2025
This week, I want to offer some straightforward writing and publishing advice that might hurt your feelings; but I’m willing to hurt your feelings since it is in service of awakening your inner artist (see: last week’s episode). Even if you’re “not a writer” or don’t have any aspirations for publishing, this advice is for you. It’s for any creative person who questions the validity of their art because they don’t make much (or any) money from their creative pursuits, because they don’t have a big following, or because their art doesn’t look like the art of those who have had commercial success. Before you give up, or if you already have, check out today’s episode. What I have to say might just change the way you approach your art altogether. I hope it helps you and I can’t wait to see what you make.
