90 minutes of cutting edge new tunes from the sonic underground. Including two pieces of dystopian synth pop from Sissy Space Echo & The Invisible Collaborators, psychedelic shoegaze with Whirr, the beautiful song craft of Viole Vecchio, Jamaican hip hop courtesy of Swamp Thug & Josh The Author, Americana with Starbloom, acid beats from Hardfloor and way more besides. From out of the vaults come the unmistakable sound of Kraftwerk, Blur at their most wistful, and the seductive motor of Stereolab. Meanwhile this week’s soundtrack music selections come from two 1970s cult classics: Michael J. Lewis’s score from the 1971 psychological thriller ‘Unman, Wittering and Zigo’ and Bullet’s soundtrack to the 1975 ITV series ‘The Hanged Man’. Dig in!

Footsteps ep.3 is again full of words - sung, spoken and sampled. Words that navigate Loss, ideologies through the medium of mum doing the washing, kidneys sold for canisters and slow cars in smalls towns you never did leave.

Today: Tune in for a visit with Angela Jaeger who will discuss her new book I Feel Famous. Here she recounts her years growing up in NYC as an inhabitant of 77-81 nascent punk culture, canoodling with its various in habitants and scene-makers, before her Anglophilia pulled her into the middle of London’s scene as well. Her diaries recount a wide-eyed, humorously sweet account of her pure fandom spilling into the post-punk era (where her sister Hilary booked the auspicious Tier 3 NYC venue), eventually leading Jaeger into performing and recording with the likes of Pigbag, The Monochrome Set, and David Cunningham. Tune in for some surely interesting first-hand remembrances.

Back in the studio, Mariana starts off with classics Dorothy Ashby and Mongo Santamaria, and goes into modern with Jeremy Pelt’s and Cymande’s new tunes. The band that gives the title to this episode is Theodor, who comes next with ‘Serpentines’ from their end of last year record. Followed by Bad Bunny’s just out celebration of Puerto Rico with ‘DtMF’. The second part of the show slows downs with Rita Payés, Bibi Club, Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes, and even Kendrick’s ‘man at the garden’. And to wrap it up, Dudu Moraes, Mark Barrott and Nick Drake. Tune in for a soothing genre-blend, where the sounds matter as much as the stories behind them.
