David Fleming speaks with Neufeld and Suzy Pearce about The Half Life of Marie Curie - at Redlands Footlighters Theatre Fridays through Sundays, November 1 through the 10th. The play follows the friendship of Marie Curie and the lesser known Hertha Ayrton, a scientist. Neither welcomed in the scientific world, but whose work eclipsed that of their husbands - both passed away by the time this play takes place. The play was taken from actual correspondence from these two women. Produced by Afterglow Theatre Company.

The source for entertainment for many is diving into the world of a good book. For many others, that's difficult - if not impossible. On this edition of KVC-Arts, David Fleming speaks with Diane Shimota, Adult Literacy Coordinator for the A.K. Smiley Public Library in Redlands. They'll be celebrating adult learners with an anthology of their work on September 29th.

Damian McGinty, while a part of the original lineup of Celtic Thunder, at the of 14 was not part of the original intention of the group. Still, he was with the band for a number of years. A brief hiatus gave us a stint on the TV show Glee, as well as some solo works…And he's part of the lineup once again with Celtic Thunder current tour with several stops in the region, including Riverside on the 13th. David Fleming spoke with Damian about Glee, and of course his time with Celtic Thunder as a child AND as an adult. We'll hear about some of his solo recordings in a near future show.

On Golden Pond kicks off the 100th season of Riverside Community Players. Each and every show of this upcoming season is indeed a heavy hitter. David Fleming speaks with board member Philip Gabriel, Mel Chadwick - also on the board and playing Norman as well, along with Ron Milts - directing the show. We'll hear about the show, a bit about the 100th season and more.

This is a re-edit of a conversation with David Fleming and Maurice Williams, who passed away in early August at the age of 86. His first time on the charts was in the late 50's with the song "Little Darlin'," (as The Gladiolas) though the biggest hit from Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, undoubtedly, was STAY. This one also has a nice behind the scenes story, though it's pretty much straight forward with a simple listen. It's the end of a date you don't want to end.

David Fleming speaks with Jane Kirkpatrick, author of 41 books, including "The Healing of Natalie Curtis." This is a work of historical fiction about a woman who helped preserve the music, dance and language of Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni Tribes at a time when many sought to ban such things.

They polled the audiences to find out what THEY'D like to see. These were all pulled from the near 100-year history of the theatre, which started in 1925. It was originally the Drama Department of the Riverside Women's Club before separating to become Riverside Community Players. So out of 99-plus years we were bound to have some heavy hitters asked for. And this is what we'll be getting! The band was formed when Albert reached out to friends to help him play his music live and in studio. Wayword has released 1 EP and 1 album and is actively working on a 2nd record. Henry Franklin, "Skipper," got his start with Roy Ayers in a Latin jazz group while still in high school. He was recruited by Hugh Masekela for an album which produced "Grazing in the Grass," and took him to Woodstock as well as the Monterey Pop Festival. He's worked as a sideman with many, and has 28 (or so) albums under his own name.On the next KVC-Arts David Fleming speaks with Skipper about one of the most recent — one which earned him a NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding Jazz record — instrumental. SUCH a great disc! We'll also hear about one that was a bit of an avant-garde piece, yet still QUITE cool to listen to. We'll touch briefly as well on his time with Stevie Wonder.But it's mostly jazz; and jazz in this area! Skipper still lines up the musicians for Pierce Street Jazz, a free concert series at La Sierra University. A variety of types of jazz presented, with known players who are in the region (they're all OVER the place). AND more!
