Here is what is making news for April 17, 2025.=================================Otway Ranges farmer Andrew Stewart will speak at the Heytesbury District Landcare Networks AGM on April 29 about how farmers can dedicate almost 20 per cent of their land to tree cover and still maintain production. Andrew says he operates a primarily sheep based farm but has been focused on including shrubbery and trees since the 90s. ==================================================================After raising more than $8,000 for the Good Friday Appeal last year and walking more than 600-kilometres - MixxFM's Good Friday Appeal Walkathon is back today. The focus of the programme is to explore natural gas reserves in the Otway Basin, with 3D Energi and ConocoPhillips Australia. ========================================================Colac and surrounding units such as Cobden and Lismore are looking to bolster SES numbers heading into winter. Here is what is making news for April 09, 2025.==========================Statistics from the Australian Cancer Atlas have reported that residents of the Corangamite Shire are 52 percent more likely than the average Australian to contract Oral Cancer. Colac Otway Shire CEO Anne Howard says residents of the local Shire can vote on the eventual winner. ============================Barwon Water's Lorne water treatment plant took out the crown of the 2025 IXOM Best Tasting Tap Water in Victoria. The winner was announced yesterday in Bendigo, with Barwon Water Lorne edging out Coliban Water's Trentham water treatment plant and Central Highlands Water's Ballarat water treatment plant. ============================The Victorian Deer Control Strategy is back in action in the Great Otway National Park and Eastern Otways to manage the rising deer population. The program runs until the end of 2025, operating at night with thermal technology. ============================Two planned burns have been undertaken by Forest Fire Management Victoria across the South west. A fifteen - hectare burn yesterday has been carried out at Bald Hill, Forrest, to provide bushfire protection by reducing overall fuel hazard and bushfire hazard in the landscape.
