Friday Juma Khutba January 24th, 2025 - The 24th of Rajab marks the conquest of Khaybar by Amirul Mu’minin ‘Ali (a) in the 7th AH. - The Prophet sent various commanders to conquer the fort of Qamūs, but they failed for eight days. - The Prophet declared he would give the banner to a man loved by Allah and His Messenger, and who loved them in return. - ‘Ali (a), despite an eye ailment, was called, healed by the Prophet, and given the banner. He successfully led the Muslims to victory. - This event highlights the unique love between Allah and ‘Ali (a), as also mentioned in Qur’an 3:31. - Mu‘āwiyah, during his reign, held a gathering in Mecca to promote Yazid’s successorship, where he spoke ill of ‘Ali (a). - Sa‘d bin Waqqāṣ protested, citing three unmatched honors of ‘Ali: 1. Being appointed as the Prophet’s deputy during Tabūk. 2. Being part of the Prophet’s prayer during the Mubāhalah alongside Fāṭimah, Ḥasan, and Ḥusayn. 3. Leading the Muslims to victory at Khaybar under the Prophet’s explicit praise. - Sa‘d left the gathering in protest. - Qur’an 9:32 emphasizes that Allah’s light cannot be extinguished, despite opposition. Download wudhu duas at: al-m.ca/salat - Wudhu is an essential act of purification and a preparation for daily prayers, which can be spiritually enhanced with specific duas. - Imam Ali (a) emphasized the importance of mindful wudhu, reciting specific supplications at each stage. - Upon seeing water and washing hands, praise Allah for the purity of water and its ability to cleanse. - While gargling, ask Allah for eloquence in remembrance and the correct answer on the Day of Judgment. - During rinsing the nose, pray for the blessings of Paradise's fragrance and inclusion among its recipients. - While washing the face, ask Allah to brighten your face on the Day of Judgment and save it from disgrace. - When washing the right forearm, pray for your scroll of deeds to be given in your right hand and for ease in reckoning. - While washing the left forearm, seek refuge from receiving your deeds in the left hand or around your neck, and from Hellfire. - During wiping of the head, ask Allah for His mercy, blessings, and pardon to envelop you. - While wiping the feet, pray for steadfastness on the Sirat (path) on the Day of Judgment and for actions that please Allah. He emphasized the importance of repaying debts promptly and not taking financial obligations lightly, as highlighted through personal guidance and prophetic examples. 4. Encouraged the community to support and relieve others of their financial burdens, emphasizing communal responsibility and compassion. 5. Imam Jawad (a) taught that settling debts should be a priority after someone’s death, with estates only being distributed after debts are cleared. 6. He highlighted that a true believer fulfills their obligations and does not attempt to evade financial responsibilities, even when moving to another city. 7. The Imam’s teachings stressed trustworthiness and faithfulness in financial dealings as integral traits of a believer. 8. In debates, Imam Jawad (a) showcased remarkable intellectual clarity, using scriptural evidence to refute fabricated or exaggerated claims. 9. Friday Juma Khutba January 10th, 2024 - Over the last 30 years, reports have highlighted alcohol's harms to society, including a Lancet study by Dr. David Nutt ranking alcohol as more dangerous than heroin or crack cocaine based on a 16-point harm checklist. - Alcohol scored 72, ahead of heroin (55) and crack (54). - It causes significant harm to others, ranking highest among drugs in this category. - The U.S. Surgeon General recently advised alcohol warning labels, linking consumption to risks of seven cancers and over 100,000 cancer cases annually in the U.S. - The Qur'an (5:90-91) prohibits intoxicants, emphasizing their social and spiritual harms - Social ills: fostering enmity, hatred, domestic violence, and societal breakdown. - Spiritual ills: distracting from Allah's remembrance and prayer, leading to immorality. - Addiction is likened to an "auto-pilot" influenced by Satan, leading individuals towards destruction. - Dr. Gregory Taylor and experts propose redefining alcohol in the Food and Drugs Act, recognizing it as a psychoactive drug rather than food. - Intoxicants are termed "khamr" in the Qur'an, meaning "veil," signifying their impact on intellect and behavior.
