Matvei Michkov became the first Flyers rookie with consecutive 2-goal games since Dave Poulin in March of 1984, leading Philadelphia to a victory that many fans were rooting against. Neck-and-neck with the Buffalo Sabres in the draft lottery standings, a regulation loss would’ve gone a long way to locking in a top-5 pick for the Orange & Black. But the rejuvenated Flyguys had other ideas, scoring 6 goals for a second straight game since John Tortorella’s dismissal. The Philadelphia Flyers surprised fans on Thursday morning, announcing John Tortorella had been relieved of his coaching duties, and associate coach Brad Shaw would be taking over on an interim basis. After Thursday night’s 6-4 win over the Playoff-contending Montreal Canadiens, there are still a ton of questions regarding Torts’ dismissal. Can Shaw hold the job? Will this spark a draft lottery-ruining run? What really lead to all of this? And what the hell is going on with Cam York? For at least one game, the Philadelphia Flyers looked like a team not in the midst of a full-on tank following John Tortorella being relieved of his head coaching duties earlier Thursday. Matvei Michkov recorded his 16th multi-point game, picking up a goal and an assist in a 3-goal first period for the Orange & Black and added a second goal in the 3rd to get to 22 goals and 54 points on the season. Charlie, Kelly & Bill react to the Flyers’ first post-Torts performance, and huge nights for the captain and Mad Russian.

In a shocking move just hours before their sports complex neighbors begin a new MLB season in Washington DC, the Philadelphia Flyers announce that they have relieved John Tortorella of head coaching duties and have named Brad Shaw as the interim coach. Bill & Charlie react to the shocking news in an emergency episode.

John Tortorella said on Tuesday night that he’s not interested in learning to coach a season like this. Unfortunately a season like this is what Torts has, and now questions are being asked, loudly, about how much longer he has behind Philly’s bench. Charlie & Bill debate Tortorella’s future as Philadelphia Flyers coach, as well as what might go on in net for this season’s final 9 games, as well as next year. Plus, a check-in with Lehigh Valley Phantoms correspondent Madeline Campbell, with reinforcements joining the AHL squad soon, and 9 games remaining until Calder Cup Playoffs.

Scott Laughton did not have the big night against his old team that we predicted, but it wasn’t needed for the Toronto Maple Leafs who dominated the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. On the bright side, Matvei Michkov extended his point-streak to 3 games with an assist on Sean Couturier’s goal late in the 2nd period. Despite being eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention, the Chicago Blackhawks came out motivated enough to score 7 goals against Ivan Fedotov and the Philadelphia Flyers. Travis Konecny and Matvei Michkov had a couple points each, but it was former Flyers prospect Pat Maroon, who recently announced his retirement following this season, who got the last laugh in Chicago. The Philadelphia Flyers earned themselves a loser point against the Dallas Stars on Saturday afternoon, forcing overtime but losing in the first 10 seconds of the 3v3. Ivan Fedotov’s start only lasted 20 minutes as he was pulled after allowing goals on the first 2 Dallas shots and only making 1 save in the first. Travis Konecny scored for the first time in over a month and that’s pretty cool for him. Charlie, Bill & Steve break down the loss and the awful month of March for the Orange & Black.

The Philadelphia Flyers have lost 8 of 10 in March and haven’t won in regulation since February 25th. Philly’s place in the draft lottery is within the top-5 and based on the offensive output this month, it could still improve over the season’s last dozen games. Ryan Poehling scored a goal in the third period, becoming Philly’s first goal scorer since Ryan Poehling last Thursday. But the story of the game was Alex Ovechkin scoring his 888th career goal, bringing him within 7 of a new all-time record. Charlie, Bill & Steve break down yet another loss, Philly’s 3rd straight and 8th in the last 9 games.

The Philadelphia Flyers are still playing hard, limiting shots on goal, blocking shots and drawing penalties. But they cannot score.
