The Philadelphia Phillies fall to the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-1 thanks to a quite night from the bats and a meatball from Jordan Romano! Phillies starter Mick Abel was impressive in his second big league start. He tossed 5.1 innings allowing one run on three hits and no walks. His night was done after allowing an RBI triple to Bo Bichette to left center field that Brandon Marsh just missed. The Orion Kerkering took over in the 6th with one out and was able to hold Bichette at third. After Kerkering Matt Strahm and Tanner Banks combined for 6 straight outs. The problem, however, was that the Phillies bats went ICE COLD. Just five hits in the game and they were unable to produce a run from a bases loaded one out situation in the 5th. The Philadelphia Phillies used a 6-run first inning, two homers from Trea Turner and 6 innings of one-run baseball from Cristopher Sanchez to get by the Blue Jays, 8-3. In the first, Bryson Stott worked a four-pitch walk, then Trea Turner and Bryce Harper followed with back-to-back homers and just like that the Phillies were off and running with a 3-0 lead. When the dust settled on Toronto starter Bowden Francis, the Phillies took him for seven runs on seven hits over just 1.2 innings of work. Bryce Harper went 1-for-4 with a two walks and his homer in his first game back after being hit by a pitch last Tuesday by the Braves’ Spencer Strider. Harper’s first inning homer traveled 394ft. Turner hit his second homer of the night in the 8th inning, turning on a 3-2 splitter on the hands. He sent it 373 feet over the left field. Christopher Sanchez picks up the win to improve to 5-1 on the season. He allowed one run coming on a solo homer by Davis Schneider in the 5th. The Phillies fell to the Brewers, 5-2 Sunday afternoon marking their fourth straight loss and fifth in their last seven games. Realmuto and a check swing RBI infield single by Kyle Schwarber. In the field, Edmundo Sosa and Trea Turner came up small. Sosa had a miss-play that allowed a run to score in the 5th. He had an out at the plate but instead went to 2nd to get a force out and second out of the inning. Then in the 7th, Turner had a grounder hit to him that should have been the final out of the inning, but instead booted it. The Brewers would go on to take a 4-2 lead in the inning. Taijuan Walker lasted just four innings and was charged with four runs on seven hits and a walk as the Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2. Despite Walker’s struggles, the offense didn’t do much to back him up. Kyle Schwarber came up with two of the Phillies’ four hits recording two doubles on the night. Wheeler was charged for six runs on four hits and four walks. He also gave up a two-run homer to Ozzie Albies as part of a four-run 4th inning. Wheeler needed 107 pitches to get through just 5.1 innings. Carlos Hernandez relieved Wheeler in the 6th and gave up an infield single to Michael Harris II before allowing a two-run single by Luke Williams to push the Braves lead to 6-0 in the 6th. Wheeler’s counterpart, Chris Sale was dominant over six scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits, three walks and one hit batsman while striking out six throwing 102 pitches. After taking two out of three from the Braves, the Phillies have now won nine of their 10 series. They start a three-game series with Rhys Hoskins and the Brewers Friday night at 6:45. Rafael Marchan leads the Philadelphia Phillies past the Atlanta Braves with 5-4 win! The Phillies back-up catcher has struggled this season, since taking over the role from Garrett Stubbs after spring training. Entering the game, Marchan had amassed just 3 hits on the season and not one of them was a home run. In this win, the 26-year-old out of Venezuela went 1-for-2 with a walk, hit by pitch and three RBI’s. Within that line was his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the 3rd inning. He also threw out two base-runners trying to take second base on him, including Ozzie Albies, who walked on four pitches to leadoff the 9th. After Matt Strahm surrendered two runs in the top of the 8th inning, Marchan helped the Phillies grab the lead back. Braves’ reliever Daysbel Hernandez pitched the borrow of the 8th and loaded the bases. He then hit Marchan in the foot to force home what would be the game winning run. Ranger Suares came up with another scoreless outing as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves, 2-0 Tuesday night. Suarez threw six-scoreless innings allowing four hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Since his rough season debut where he allowed seven runs, Suarez has put in three scoreless performances in his last four starts. He’s also pitched at least six innings in all of them. The little offense the Phillies could muster against Spencer Strider and the Braves pitching staff came in the form of a Max Kepler RBI double in the 2nd inning. Later in the 2nd, with one out, J.T. Realmuto lined out to right field and Kepler was late tagging from 2nd to 3rd, he would be safe on the throw, but didn’t realize the throw bounced into left field. Kepler could have scored on the play. In the 8th, Alec Bohm hit a ground ball with eyes up the middle and that started something for the Phillies. Nick Castellanos followed with a base hit to center field, then Braves reliever Daysbel Hernandez walked Kepler to load the bases and then walked in a run when Realmuto was able to lay off a low slider for the Phillies’ second run. Bryce Harper was forced out of the game in the 1st inning when he took an 95mph 0-1 fastball off his elbow. Harper’s x-rays came back negative. The Philadelphia Phillies’ winning streak was halted at nine-straight after taking a 5-4 loss to the A’s Sunday afternoon. Trea Turner’s solo homer in the top of the 8th gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead, putting the Phillies in line for a 10th consecutive victory. But the A’s had other ideas. In the bottom of the 8th, after seven strong innings from Jesus Luzardo, the Phils gave the ball to Matt Strham. He went on to allow two runs on 2 hits and a walk, giving the A’s a 5-4 lead. Mason Miller cam on to pitch the top of the 9th, and unlike his two previous appearances in this season, closed the door on the Phillies. Luzardo gave up three runs in the first inning, then went on to toss six scoreless innings after that with a total of 10 strikeouts while throwing 105 pitches. . The bats failed to have a big inning, but did drive in a run in four separate innings. The Phillies’ best chance for a breakout inning came in the 2nd when they took three straight walks to load the bases with no outs. A’s starter Gunnar Hoglund then got J.T. Realmuto ground into a 6-4 double play before Alec Bohm flied out to center to end the threat. Trea Turner led the Phillies’ offensive efforts with three RBIs including his 4th homer of the season.
