The Gospel - Part 1
8/20/2025
How many religions can you find in our culture today? And then start listing off all the self-help philosophies and worldviews you encounter. Where do people come up with these?? Today, Pastor John contrasts human philosophies with Christianity. The Christian faith is not just a collection of wise ideas from enlightened individuals. It’s not the majority view of whoever is leading the culture. When you put your faith in Jesus, you’re placing your life in the real, historical, Incarnated Word of God.
Now, let’s join Pastor John in the book of Colossians, chapter 1, as he begins his message, The Gospel.

Paul's Grateful Heart - Part 2
8/19/2025
As Christians, we know that we are “saved” by Christ. But what does that really mean? Is it something only for after we die, or does it have any benefit for our earthly life? Today, Pastor John explains how thoroughly and completely we are saved by Christ. When you came to Christ in faith, you were saved from the penalty of sin. Now that you are in Christ, you are being saved from the power of sin. And when you reach eternity, you will be completely saved from the presence of sin. Now that’s Good News!

Have you found the perfect church yet? Where every member is diligently and sincerely following Christ? Where the only priority is to praise and honor Jesus? Today, Pastor John reminds us that every church has always had its struggles. That’s why most of the New Testament epistles were written. And we have these today in the canon of the Bible, so that we can learn from them. Each epistle has a message for you personally. For example, the book of Colossians will help you focus on the preeminence of Christ.

The King’s Conflicts (Study 3) - Part 2
8/15/2025
You may know someone who lived a pretty wild life, but later on became a “reformed” character. And that’s wonderful. But here’s a question: did that person feel a greater need for Jesus before or after they cleaned up their life? Today, Pastor John looks at a parable of Jesus about someone who cleaned up his life of one evil, but instead of filling it with true life from God, just left it empty. You may have fixed a lot of things in your life, but it’s not enough to be reformed; you must be transformed by Christ.

How many times have you heard people say, “Sure, I’d believe in God if He would just give me some evidence.” Or, “I tried faith in Jesus once, but He didn’t really do what I wanted Him to do.” Today, Pastor John shows how Jesus Himself faced those same objections during His earthly ministry. And Jesus’s answer was: “I’ve given you way more evidence than you need.” But His greatest proof was yet to come. Are you still looking for more evidence? Then look no further than the resurrection of Jesus.

One of the most unpopular words in the English language today is “sin.” We don’t like to think of ourselves as “sinners.” Sure, we make “mistakes.” We do things that are “questionable.” But, we’re not really all that bad, are we? Today, Pastor John shows how plainly Jesus spoke when He spoke of right and wrong, good and evil, righteousness and sin. He didn’t gloss over it. The good news for you is that when you go openly to God and confess your sins, He is absolutely reliable and faithful to forgive you.

What do you think of when you hear the word “servant”? For most people, that’s a derogatory word. The “important” people in the world “get” served, they don’t “serve.” But today, Pastor John reminds us that one of God the Father’s descriptions of His Son Jesus was “His Servant,” Jesus came to earth, not only to serve us by dying as a sacrifice for our sins, but also to serve His Father’s Will. And He’s your example, too. You have the opportunity to live for something… and Someone… bigger than yourself.

How can you discern, within your own heart, whether or not you’re being legalistic? How do you know if something you believe is a biblical doctrine or a personal prejudice? Today, Pastor John explores these difficult questions. And he has some great self-examinations to help you figure out where you are in your own life. By these, you can know whether you’re following Jesus or your own ideas. First: is your main concern precepts or people? And second: how does your life serve others?

When you hear the word “legalism,” what do you think of? You may have had experiences of differences with other Christians whom you felt may have been legalistic. But what is legalism? How can you avoid it? And what’s Jesus’s take on it? Today, Pastor John explores an incident in Jesus’s ministry when He was confronted by legalists. And Jesus wasted no time in exposing it for what it was. This message will help you avoid legalism, both as the source and as the recipient.

From Death to Life (Study 2) - Part 1
8/7/2025
Have you ever been in a situation where you knew you couldn’t save yourself, but someone else came to your rescue? Maybe it wasn’t as dramatic as being pulled out of the water by a lifeguard. Perhaps it was a project at work that you knew you couldn’t finish, but a co-worker came in and got it done just in the nick of time. Today, Pastor John explains how and why Jesus saved you. Here’s a clue: by grace through faith. But what exactly is grace? And what is – and what is not – meant by “faith”?

From Death to Life (Study 1) - Part 2

You’ve probably been in predicaments where things seemed pretty hopeless. Maybe it was a baseball game, and your team was down by three runs with two outs in the last inning. Or it was a situation at work or with your family that seemed to have no solution. But then somehow… you managed to “save the day.” Today, Pastor John explains a far greater hopelessness: the hopelessness of being spiritually dead without God. But in this case, it was God who saved the day because of His love for you.

What would it be like to have your life completely changed? For example, what if you woke up and suddenly you lived in a different country? Or what if you were a symphony cellist one day, and the next day, you were suddenly a professional basketball player? Today, Pastor John explains that a far more amazing transformation took place when you accepted Christ: you were transformed from death to life. Through God’s love, once you were dead and doomed, but now you are loved and raised.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus - Part 1
8/4/2025
If you’re ever curious about what the point of life is and why things were created in the first place, Pastor John’s message today directs you to the fact that it’s all about Jesus. Jesus was there at the beginning. He was magnified in heaven, glorified through His death and resurrection, and He’s the best thing this world could ever hope for. As you listen today, keep your eyes and your attention on Jesus as the One who has earned all the glory and honor for what He’s done and Who He is.

Don’t you love the engagement season? A couple’s looking ahead with such anticipation and excitement! But that time of being a “fiancée” is only temporary. It’s not a long-term situation, and what Pastor John’s getting at today is that God’s Holy Spirit in us is like a down payment, or like an engagement ring – promising something even better for the future. As the Holy Spirit resides within you at this time, look forward to what’s ahead when you get to be with God the Father!

Think of something you can pour a material into and shape it into a mold. Maybe it’s Jello, or a popsicle. What about plastic for phone cases, where it’s molded into a specific shape and size? Today, Pastor John is warning you not to allow the world to shape you. You want to be fitted and molded into what God’s created you to do and be. The best place to find what that looks like is in His Word and through prayer, renewing your mind in the things of God. He’ll transform you into something beautiful and just what’s needed.

Life, What's it all About? - Part 2
7/30/2025
There are so many things that you could do with your life. Places to go, things to see, work, play, rest, eat, sleep. You know that your life had a beginning and that it will have an end. So again, what will you do with it? Today, Pastor John outlines several ways that people use their lives. The question is: what about you? Is your life worth something, or are you wasting it? Are you spending it on things that you consume, and then they’re gone? Or are you investing it in that which is valuable and eternal?

What does it mean to have faith? Is it when the airplane gets going faster and faster down the runway, and you’re sure it’s going to actually take off and fly? Is it when you’re confident that you’re going to make that successful presentation at work or hit that game-winning home run? Today, Pastor John points out that the most important aspect of faith is: what or Who it’s in. When your faith is in God, and you trust in His purposes, you can be confident of living a truly good and meaningful life.

Looking at Life's Mysteries - Part 1
7/28/2025
It’s pretty easy to look at the people around us and see who’s prosperous. And it’s often quite obvious when you see people who are experiencing adversity. But, as Pastor John reminds us today, that’s not the same as seeing whose life is “good” and whose is “bad.” God brings different things into different people’s lives for His own reasons. It may seem like a mystery to you, but God knows exactly what He’s doing and why. Your satisfaction or dissatisfaction stems from your trust in Him.

Breaking The Monotony Of Life - Part 1
7/25/2025
Have there been times when you’ve seen God working in your life? And…have there been times when you haven’t seen Him working in your life? Today, Pastor John emphasizes that God is ALWAYS working in your life. It’s not a matter of whether He is or isn’t working; it’s just whether or not you’re seeing it. God has a sovereign plan for everything in your life: every time and every season. He brings sunshine; He brings rain. He brings joys; He brings sorrows. And everything is for your good and His glory.

Is Life Worth Living? - Part 2
7/24/2025
What life goals do different people have? Some feel that science and technology can bring the answers we need to make a better world. Others look to wisdom and philosophy to solve our problems. And there’s always just “having fun.” Or “money, possessions, and accomplishments.” Today, Pastor John shows from the conclusions of Solomon that none of these things are worth living for. Only when you live for the purposes of God will you find a life of satisfaction and meaning.
