CNIB Cybersecurity Event & Everyone’s Angry At Shaun

10/9/2024
Today on the show Steven and Shaun learn about an event coming up from CNIB focused on teaching blind people on the best ways to ensure that we are all aware of cybersecurity and how to keep ourselves safe online. Shaun speaks to David Kapper-Burch who is the lead for digital technology and training at the CNIB Smartlife Technology Program, and Wendy Hong who is an apprentice on the program. They both discuss the need for vigilance online and what accessible tools are out there that we can all use to keep our data and passwords safe. More details on the webinar and how to register are available on the CNIB website. Next up, Shaun is back in the spotlight following a number of emails telling us that Meta AI is not in fact in the UK, despite Shaun’s insistence. We hear from various listeners who want to express their annoyance at him, but actually at Meta for not bringing the feature to the UK by now. Character Limits, Shaun’s Blind Dilemma & Google Gemini Meets Talkback

10/8/2024
Today on the show Steven and Shaun discuss the character limit explosion on social media these days, how Shaun felt after being called blind by a passer by, and we meet Google’s Product Manager for Android, Lisie Lilianfeld. The guys open the show with their usual banter picking up on Shaun’s recent experience with a passer-by who tried to help him by yelling ‘Blind Guy” to a motorist who was reversing out of his drive. Why did this bother Shaun so much? And since we’re on irritations, Steven shares his most recent after finding people on social media network Mastodon writing posts up to 10,000 characters long. Is it too much, or is this the path of new social media? And later in the show the guys are joined by special guest Lisie Lilianfeld, Google’s Product Manager for Android, to discuss the recent implementation of Google’s AI called Gemini into the Android screenreader called Talkback, making it easier to get high quality image descriptions from photos on social media and online. Mince Monday & Your Comments

10/7/2024
Today on the show Steven and Shaun dig into the mailbag to listen to and respond to your emails and voicemails. They begin with a rather troubling admission from Steven about what he did with the remaining mince in his slow cooker, moving on rather quickly (thankfully) to discuss their use of Be My AI and Talkback 15’s new image description feature on supported Android devices. In the inbox there’s emails from Jeff and Ian on using the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, and a rather nice example of how Barri uses Be My AI at home. Plus our good friend and loyal listener Greg tries to calm his beating heart following Steven’s recent thoughts on the cost of specialist tech.
